Read this topic for the authoritative conversation on this topic:
The update of the first level menus on 01/10/2023 lost translations of the first level menus of all workspaces.
The link below discusses how language translations were lost; the continuation and discussion of a technique to correct
the lost translations is shown in the copy below the link.

      https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/the-update-on-01-10-2023-lost-translations-of-the-first-level-menus/

      antix Menu > Terminal
(copy the command bellow and paste it in the Terminal, press enter, to run the command, then you can close the Terminal):

      cp /usr/share/antiX/localisation/pt-br/icewm/menu ~/.icewm/

Replace pt-br with the country code and the language code that you want to restore to your environment.

PPC wrote: “Using the command I posted above does implement the new updated first layer of the menu– for those unaware of the changes: App-select now is the first entry (and most people expect the “search” field to be the first thing on the menu- by default, antiX does not have a “search field”, but it has the next best thing- a very nice “Search app to search for installed apps”). The new version the menu also does away with the “Help” sub-menu, making the menu a tiny bit simpler (for all those folks that complained antiX’s menu was “too bloated”).
Overall, I think the updated menu increases it’s usability, specially for people using antiX for the first time, trying to adapt to a new OS!”

Maybe the actual command should also be included in this topic.

Sorry, Brian please look again here, what is the meaning of this thread ? Should every user now copy and paste the above command? If I do so I’ll get a brazilian translated menu.

          Thanks for editing

No. I won’t do anything myself.
Those who DO want to copy a localization of the menu directory should copy only a locale or locales that they actually use.

Change pt-br to the country code and the language code in the copy command shown earlier if you want to have a localized window manager.
The name of the window manager can also be changed if you use something other than icewm.

This entire thread is an offshoot of a conversation PPC had with Marcelo. Look for that conversation and you’ll see the portion of the topic there that I copied to this thread. Without that conversation this loses meaning.

Is one thread but that’s a follow up to the original thread. I’ll find the other one and reference it for clarification.

https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/the-update-on-01-10-2023-lost-translations-of-the-first-level-menus/ is the original thread. Pages 2 and 3 have the context for this thread but if you read all three pages you will get the full context of why an entirely new thread was started to emphasize the creation of the new menu for those who actually want and need it. That’s probably a small audience but it’s very important for this group.

Hi Brian, would you please put further explanation and link in the first post so readers can
quickly figure out what the whole thing is about.

As is the thread is still somewhat confusing. Especialy as non english speakers need
to translate all posts including last one. Then move to the original thread and continue
before understanding the what and why properly.

Hmmm. I did nothing special but dist upgrade and said yes at package maintainers version in /etc/skel and when I left click in FT-10 to get original icewm menu. App select is on top. No worries here.

Edit: locate command is my go to search tool. Quicker.

                        Hi, all

Thanks for creating this thread, “The Maz”.
I noticed that also the default IceWM toolbar file was uptaded, to include icons of antiX-Updater and Toolbar Icon Manager, so both the defaults for the menu AND toolbar were changed to make essential features mode “handy” to new users (or even current users that don’t explore the menu).

I agree that including, in the OP the command to install the updated config files in Brazilian Portuguese may cause havoc with non Portuguese speaking users that are too “trigger happy” running the command…
I created a small script to try to automatically update the menus and toolbars to the latest version, no matter what locale your system is using. NOTE: this will reset any changes you performed to the menu or toolbar (ex: icons you added to the start of the menu or quick launchers you added to the toolbar)
I tested the script in pt and the script seems to work fine also in pt-br, but any other locale, please make backup’s of the menu and toolbar files, before trying to run this NOT FULLY TESTED script! The code is over at https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/the-update-on-01-10-2023-lost-translations-of-the-first-level-menus/page/4/#post-97477
The change to the menu should be instant in the IceWM and Fluxbox menus (I did not perform tests in JWM). The changes in the toolbar probably will require you to restart your window manager, to produce effects.
If you are running live, without persistence, or in a VM, please test the script in your locale and report back, if everything went fine.

@anticapitalista – I noticed the Herbstlunft (or whatever it’s called, I can never pronounce it, less alone type it’s name) Tilling Window manager now is back in the list of “desktops” offered from the menu – is that by design (I think it was hidden from that menu entry to avoid unsespecting users clicking it and ending up without any obvious way to go back to the default Floating Window Manager)?

                        P.
