Hello all,
I have recently installed Antix beta on my system as an alternative distro. I am very impressed so far. My question is probably one that may have been asked before but forgive me, i couldn’t find it with a forum search.
When the beta becomes final, will I need to reinstall or will the normal sudo apt-update && dist-upgrade do the trick?April 23, 2023 at 3:36 am #105259ModeratorBobC
::With an alpha or beta there’s no guarantee it will be upgradable, but I think it’s something the Developers are going to really try to provide for.
Thus far, since I’ve been running it, all have been upgradable. Knock on wood…

::Thanks Bob. BTW, like a good forum citizen, I tried in my OP to upload my system info via the inxi command that produced the text file, however, for whatever reason it seems it didn’t upload. Maybe this is one of the (small) rough edges of the beta version do you think?

This is a beta.
It will be full of bugs.
It will not include all ‘perfect’ translations (as I mentioned in the opening post).
So, please don’t assume that if something is not working for ‘you’ is intentional.Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

First of all, I’d like to thank all alpha1 testers.
This beta would not have been possible without your help.Remember it is a *beta* so
Do not use this on critical systems.
The default Debian repos point to bookworm, but antiX ones to testing. This means Repo_Manager will not work correctly.
This will change to bookworm once the Debian hard freeze begins.
Not all localisation is complete.Size of iso = approximately 1.6GB
Includes 2 kernels – 5.10 legacy and 6.1 ‘modern’
Defaults to zzz-IceWM ‘desktop’
Test it out.Post any comments (positive and negative)
Help find and fix some bugsThanks
Get it here: https://download.tuxfamily.org/antix/Testing/
I will keep the file there for a few weeks, but then remove/delete it.Added:
Is there anyone using a 64bit computer that fails to boot using the ‘modern’ 6.1 kernel?
If everyone(?) is able to boot using the 6.1 kernel then there is no need for 5.10 to be on the iso, right?Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit – leaner and meaner.

This might very well be an issue with the software running the forum. I’ve had problems with the spam filter blocking inxi output, I think this is due to the presence of certain url’s included in the file. And this has happened with previous releases.

No, there are specific character combinations which trigger the security alarm of wordfence. You would never guess what actually causes it in a specific case without lengthy analysis. Some time ago I found out a single double point in the „wrong” place near the word „data” is enough already to make your posting fail the upload. You simply can’t know before, whether your text will be accepted or not by the board software. But it’s definitely not an issue of any URLs inxi includes in its output.

::Try renaming the inxi output file to inxi.txt and try uploading it again.
And yes, a Beta version of a system is a TEST version, and should be expected to have bugs, so be careful using it.
