Hi, im an italian guy, that is trying the os linux for the first time, and ths antix is my favourite (respect lubuntu, xubuntu, bodhi linux, puppy linux).
Good work with that os, it’s great!
I mounted it on an old ASUS laptop, in specific is an ASUS A7CC-7005M, with a PROCESSOR Intel 2 Duo T5600 (one of the fist 64bit processor), with a GRAPHIC CARD Ati Mobility Radeon X1450, and 2GB of RAM, this laptop usually had a windows XP Service Pack 3 (32bit) that now its totally obsolete.

1: It’s better the Antix 32bit or 64bit version for this laptop?

2:Comparing the performances between XP and Antix utilization (testing and comparing in watching Youtube videos, watching Streaming Movies in theese classic streaming websites) i noticed that the machine has better performances in XP usage, probably because this old os can better manage the graphic dedicated card, probably using more specifics drivers, i don’t know, so for this reason i’m ASKING YOUR HELP, because i’m a newbie in any distro linux use, and i need if possible the help of experts or of that beautiful free community.

1: In RAM usage, probably the 32bits version will use a little less RAM. Other than that, not much changes. But most applications no longer have 32bits versions, so having a 64bits OS gives you more compatibility with a lot more applications. 2 Giga of RAM is what I consider the ideal minimum RAM to use antix with a modern web browser

2: I think you already said this on another thread… You’ll have to send us your detailed system specs, so people here can help you. In general, newer Kernels work with more hardware, but sometimes older kernels work better with very old computers, so there is no general advice I can give you on that. For Youtube, try our dedicated youtube app- SMtube (like I previously advised)- without a doubt it will much better than any browser, on any other OS… For other streaming sites, you may have luck trying to open the streams directly from a multimedia player… from the terminal… I know that can be a bit scary for a new user, but it’s probably your best bet, is you can’t stream videos in an acceptable way, on a browser. I do not recommend using Windows XP connected to the internet – you probably have many virus on that machine… That may not be problematic if you have no personal information/files on that computer, but do not have important file or do home banking, etc on that OS!

Always give preference to the 64-bit operating system, you will only have to use the 32-bit operating system if your processor is 32-bit. (I wrote this in my welcome #102698 for you)

Even a computer with only 1 GB of RAM if it has a 64-bit processor, 64-bit antiX will still be the best option.

You have to read the PPC tutorials that I have referred to you and my text, many of your questions are answered in these texts.

Dai sempre la preferenza al sistema operativo a 64 bit, dovrai utilizzare il sistema operativo a 32 bit solo se il tuo processore è a 32 bit. (Ho scritto questo nel mio #102698 per te)

Anche un computer con solo 1 GB di RAM se ha un processore a 64 bit, l’antiX a 64 bit sarà comunque l’opzione migliore.

Devi leggere i tutorial PPC che ti ho riferito e il mio testo, molte delle tue domande trovano risposta in questi testi.

Sempre dê preferência ao sistema operacional de 64 bits, você só terá que utilizar o sistema operacional de 32 bits se o seu processador for de 32 bits. (eu escrevi isso na minha boas-vindas #102698 para você)

Mesmo um computador com apenas 1 GB de memória RAM se tiver um processador de 64 bits, o antiX de 64 bits ainda será a melhor opção.

Você tem que ler os tutoriais do PPC que eu indiquei para você e o meu texto, várias das suas perguntas são respondidas nestes textos.

Both PPC and Marcelo have good advice. One advantage of 32-bit software, particularly if you are using a 32-bit system is that such systems are slightly more conservative of resources, as PPC mentioned. However, a 64-bit system has considerably more “address space”. What this means is that a LOT more system address space is available, and that does consume a little more resources to take advantage of that space. As Marcelo mentions, there are a LOT of 64-bit systems, even OLD ones that are available, and if that is what you have, we recommend you use a 64-bit system. The differences in resources used are not going to prevent a 64-bit system from working; antiX works across an incredibly wide range of different systems.

Try a 64-bit version; only try something else if it simply can’t be coaxed into working; the hardware is old, make sure it all works; run ASUS system diagnostics if they are still present on your “system firmware” (stuff that checks the interaction between the physical hardware and the system software).

Hi giuzeta,
With core duo and 2GB Ram you are OK to run 64 bit antiX. If you want to increase performance
fit an SSD. Check your purchase, many fake drives around. Make sure cooling system is clean especialy if
the device has been used anywhere near a smoker. Oily residue from cig smoke sticks dust to fan and cooler.
You must open the device to clean. Lubricate the fan and replace cooling paste an additional recommendation.
Replace board battery and make sure you have latest BIOS installed.
Enjoy.

As others said, dont watch video from youtube in a browser. Best performance is with ytfzf and MPV as player.
