Hello, I’m new on antix coming from Windows world.
I use a good old netbook eeePC 1201N as musical server. It is connected to my HiFi by USB cable with a FiiO E10k DAC.
From now I’m testing live USB but it works well and sound I get is quite quite good from now.

But I hear the fan running full speed. Is it a normal behavior because of the live USB or is there something I can set up?

Thanks for your replyies and thanks again for this nice linux flavor, it’s just what an old netbook needs 🙂

      Cheers

        Hello jeanfrederic, welcome to AntiXia:

I too have a seashell edition which was bought second hand as defective had loud fan.
I had to clean mine internally, animal hair and dust on fan blades reducing efficiency. Be careful if you use compressed air to clean, you can massively overspeed the fan, also that tends to spread dust and dirt within the case rather than effectively remove it. That is a nuisance because of the very flimsy case clips which may break
even if you are really careful. Some of mine did. Fix is described in forum.
I also fitted a cheap Patriot SSD which both provided a massive speed boost and somewhat reduced heat load.
        .
For getting better software control of fan through sensors (my system is installed) I followed suggestions in,

        https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/eeepc-fan-control.html

Which got me better informed and problem under control.

Enjoy, SSD and AntiX made the sluggish netbook into a really good device for everyday usage.

Back when I ran eeepc. I used to cheat with kernel changes. Just easier. LM sensors detect was always ran.
After I fixed left click broken < cheap button > . I sold em.

there used to be a set of acpi scripts for eeepcs but I don’t think they are around anymore.

I also used one as a mpd music server. I had it set up with a client on my phone so I could remote control it. I just had a decent 3-piece speaker system hooked up to it, but I thought the audio was very good for my poor ears.
