I installed antiX on my 20 year old Compaq tower and it is working well, except for a few things.
I installed Kpatience (a KDE collection of solitaire games) using Synaptic. The games play fine, but there is no audio output.
Audio information is shown below (the first one is from using inxi -zv8, the second one from using inxi -A):
Audio: Device-1: VIA VT82C686 AC97 Audio vendor: Compaq driver: snd_via82xx v: kernel
bus-ID: 00:14.5 chip-ID: 1106:3058 class-ID: 0401
Sound Server-1: ALSA v: k4.9.0-264-antix.1-486-smp running: yesAudio: Device-1: VIA VT82C686 AC97 Audio driver: snd_via82xx
Sound Server-1: ALSA v: k4.9.0-264-antix.1-486-smp running: yesI have not had much luck searching for a fix for this. I found some information on KDE’s website, but I did not understand it.
Can any one explain what is happening and what I might try to fix this?
I would also like to clear some errors that show up during boot up, but that is for a separate inquiry.

::try Aisleriot? All of the Gnome games I’ve tried work.
I used to install the KDE ones, but they drag in a lot of other code.
Anyway, to solve your problem:
1. You need the info of what you are running, both OS and the games you added.
2. Search the internet for the problem you are having and see if its been reported or solved.
3. Maybe those games require other packages that aren’t listed as dependencies. KDE programs don’t come with antiX, so that might be the case because maybe there isn’t anyone running them to report the issue. I’m thinking does KDE work with Alsa sound, or does it require Apulse? I don’t know the answer, but it might be worth looking at.
4. There is a KDE version of MX, if you really want the KDE games, consider trying them on MX.
5. If still no joy, trying installing them onto totally stock system. Maybe something else you installed is causing a conflict.October 4, 2021 at 1:38 pm #68326Member

::Try launching the game from terminal with
apulse game-command
where game-command should be replaced with the command to launch the game. We don’t know if kde games need pulseaudio to play audio, but alsa should be enough.antiX Live system enthusiast.

::Regarding Aisleriot: I tried it first, then tried Kpatience. I found I much prefer Kpatience.
Tried launching Kpatience from Terminal, it started, but still no sound. I also found that if I click on the Sound button in game settings, that the game crashes. And, their bug reporting software was unsuccessful in reporting a bug. I could do a bug report on-line, but not without creating a KDE login account, which I decided not to do.
I have decided I will just live with no audio when playing this game.

::I just tested it and it seems to require pulseaudio to play sounds. I tried with and without apulse and was unable to play any sounds at all.
If it isn’t too much for your system, you can test installing and loading pulseaudio and see if it is worth it to have it running (resource-wise).

::I tried installing pulseaudio as you suggested. Unfortunately it did not work. When I clicked on pulseaudio volume control it said connecting to pulseaudio, but never did. And when I started the game there was no audio either. A few days ago I even tried installing the KDE desktop, but that did not help either.
One added item: When I go to the Test Audio module it passes fine, and I can play mp3 files as well.
I think it is a lost cause trying to get audio on the KDE solitaire game. It is probably a hardware situation in this very old computer that just is not going to work. When I eventually move to a newer 64 bit 10 year old computer, I expect the results will be much better.
For now, I am just going to live with it.

::The pulseaudio daemon does not autostart. To make it autostart
control-centre > session > configuration of the userIt will open geany with the startup file, where you can uncomment or add the line
pulseaudio -D &
Then reboot , You should also install pavucontrol, where you can set the audio streams .October 5, 2021 at 8:10 pm #68400Memberantixjim
::Thank you, caprea. I installed pulseaudio (pavucontrol also installed) and I can now run PulseAudio Volume Control, but still now audio on game.
How do I configure PulseAudio Volume control (input device and output device) to work with KDE games?
