No Input methods listed in Fcitx Configuration

      Hi,

      I am a new comer and I managed to install “Chinese_Input_fcitx” from Package Installer without error.
      After reboot, I opened up “Fcitx Configuration” application and there is no input methods listed. Clicking on “+” sign at the bottom of the window and uncheck “Only Show Current Language”, there is nothing listed in “Add input method” window. From the “Addon” tab, I do see various addons checked such as “LibPinyin, Sunpinyin, Google Pinyin etc…”

      This is very strange, because I installed the same “Chinese_Input_fcitx” package from Package Installer in a fresh MX19. Things were different in “Fcitx Configuration”. There are English Input listed already. And if I click “+”, there is a long list of various input methods.

      Am I missing something in antiX ?

        Yes.
        This commandstring will install the (comparatively) missing packages:
        sudo apt install fcitx-config-gtk2 fcitx-frontend-gtk2 fcitx-frontend-gtk3 fcitx-frontend-qt4 fcitx-frontend-qt5

        The MX version of “Chinese_Input_fcitx.pm” installs the following packages:

          I am not sure why my previous replies does not show up in this tread … maybe the reply is too long ..

              dpkg-reconfigure locales You should be able to mark what you want in a list and hopefuly resolve the issue with that.

                Hello anteeks,

                Possibly you’ll need the additional commands

                # dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration
# dpkg-reconfigure console-setup

                to make it work. I can’t tell for sure, since there are different ways of input for asian languages.

                antiX makes probably use of IBus input method for your language, which you can configure as described in
                https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-reference/ch08.en.html#_an_example_for_japanese
                and use the command
                $ im-config
                to add input methods and configure it.

                Sorry, I don’t have any experience with these input methods. It might work for you or not.

                Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

                  After reboot, the problem still exist. I cannot find any listed input methods (in MX, the default English is in the list). After clicking “+”, the language list is still empty (in MX, many default language input methods, i.e. English variations are listed). 🙁

                    searching antixforum for “chinese” and again for “fcitx”, I found only one interesting topic:

                      Try to first fix the locale, as others have mentioned, with
                      sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales
                      to make sure that the correct languages are built, then find the language you want for your system (let us imagine it is English), and use this command to set all system language.
                      sudo update-locale LANG=en_US.UTF-8
