I keep getting this error message box popping up every time I reboot antiX-17. It says:

No pinboard was in use… the ‘Default’ pinboard has been selected. Use ‘rox -p=Default’ to turn it on in the future.

I dismiss the pop-up dialog by clicking okay. And everything is normal. If I reboot, this message comes back but I dismiss it and the computer works normally.

Now, I am trying to finish setting up a terminal in my showroom that we use for playing online radio. I am not the user of this terminal. It is used by some folks who, how shall we say, are computer ignorant. They are used to Windows and everything has to look like windows or they can’t figure out what to do. (They also cannot get past any pop-ups on Windows either, so it’s not antiX’s fault that these folks can’t proceed when there is a pop-up). If this pop-up message comes on screen when they boot the system they are stopped in their tracks and the computer will just sit there until they can ask me what to do. The solution is easy – just click the okay button and dismiss the message box and then use the computer as normal. But they cannot figure this out and are afraid they will launch World War 3 if they click on this message box.

I have read up on this and have tried several things to try and get this message box to not come up on reboot. So far, no luck.

I am using the default rox-icewm desktop.

Here’s what I have tried so far.
typed into the terminal “rox -p=Default”. Without the quotes. Didn’t change anything.
added “rox -p=Default” to the icewm startup file (without the quotes). Didn’t work.
also tried “rox -p=pb_antiX-icewm”, “rox -p=antiX-icewm”, and “rox -p=antiX”. None of these worked.

If I log out of the session and then log in I do not get the pop-up error message.

But it comes up on every reboot.

What do I do to get rid of this pop-up?

This one little thing is making it impossible for me to use antiX in the office. Help!

      Sean

To add a bit of detail to the “no pinboard” issue. On my antiX-17 install, I occasionally get that message at boot but not every time. If I continue without taking any action, there *is* a difference of settings that have been modified (or, probably, returned to default). Rox-filer, for example, loses my font and color modifications. If I log out and re-log in (*not* a reboot) as soon as I get the “no pinboard” flag, all my settings return to normal. Again, this happens only occasionally.

Change the Start up delay from 2 seconds to 5 in Control Centre -> Session -> User Desktop Session -> desktop-session.conf

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Thank you! I changed the delay to 5 seconds and tested it. It seems to be working. I’ll double-check it later and then dub it solved.

            Thanks again,
            Sean
