I have no sound after the latest updates.
Audio: Device-1: Intel 82801JI HD Audio driver: snd_hda_intel Device-2: NVIDIA GF106 High Definition Audio driver: snd_hda_intel Sound Server-1: ALSA v: k4.9.235-antix.1-amd64-smp running: yes$ aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: AD1984A Analog [AD1984A Analog] Subdevices: 0/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 2: AD1984A Alt Analog [AD1984A Alt Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 7: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 8: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 9: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0I have edit the file /etc/asound.conf like bellow. but still no sound. only in xmms.
defaults.pcm.card 0
defaults.pcm.device 0Because of chromium I had installed pulse. i have “pulseaudio -D &” in the startup. Sound always worked. since the last update I have mostly no sound in all apps. sometimes after booting the sound works. but mostly not. in xmms player I could get sound to play. at first it didn’t work in xmms either. but in the output plugin “configure” I changed the audio device. before it was “default”. now it is “hw:0,0”. now xmms plays sound. but all other apps don’t make sound.
when i choose “sound card chooser” in “antix control center” i can choose the right sound card, but then when i test i get the error “test failed could not connect to selected device”.
what is the reason?
it came after the updates.- This topic was modified 1 year, 3 months ago by caprea.

::No. It has nothing to do with what i installed. It come just after the updates.
I installed pulse and pavucontrol over a year ago. And i have pulse in my startup file. Sound always worked perfect. I always had sound. I did not install anything new. Just did a update with synaptic. And after the updates no sound.After i had no sound i relinstalled ASLA and pulse.

::I think pulse is not working.
$ pactl list
Connection failure: Connection refused
pa_context_connect() failed: Connection refusedI try starting it with
pulseaudio -DThan it is working till i open chromium. I could play audio in firefox, but as i started chromium and played audio i have no audio everywhere, not even in firefox after i restarted firefox. I think chromium is ending pulse.

::@Ben, please try to rename your etc/asound.conf to something like /etc/asound.conf.bak
It helped me here to get sound on chromium, which didn’t work before.
I don’t have pulseaudio installed, though.Edit: Does it might give hints to start chromium from terminal.

::@caprea interesting that worked. I renamed etc/asound.conf to /etc/asound.conf.bak.
Thank you.
But i find it very strange that sound stop working in all programs after i started chromium and the only way to get sound back was to reboot. Than again i had sound in all other programs till starting chromium.
After renaming – sound keeps working after chromium is playing sound.
