          I’m not Clairvoyant, but here it goes… This should not be needed, but try it anyway:

          Open the terminal and run this command, and check if then you have sound (adapt if the command used to launch chromium is different:

          apulse chromium

          Since the OP is quite new here in the forum here’s some info that can be useful – please check the sticky posts, on the start of each thread, there’s quite a lot of useful info for new users, even if you came from another Linux distro- antiX is so light because it does some things in a different way than in most OS…
          You may also need to install and configure “pulse audio” (a different way to process audio input/output)- search the forum on how to do that.
          When searching on-line for help in antiX, first try the forum “search field” then try search engines, for help, typing your problem and “Debian” – antiX 21 is based in Debian 11, so most tips not related to the Desktop Environment or Systemd should work on antiX 21… Adapt this info if you running a previous version. Note: Ubuntu is also based on Debian, so the same applies – tips that work on Ubuntu should work on antiX (specially if that Ubuntu version is based on the same Debian version that your antiX is)
          In your case you may try to search on-line, for example “no audio chromium debian 11”

            Solved

            Among other things, I had worked through most of this: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=213693. I created a new user to simulate the .config problem proposition therein. No joy.

            Finally I executed “IV. Reinstall ALSA/Pulseaudio (This part I am unsure of)” . Taking the author’s “unsure” as cautionary, I hesitated.

            $ sudo apt-get remove –purge alsa-utils pulseaudio pavucontrol
            reboot
            $ sudo apt-get install alsa-utils
            done

              @schproodle – I’m glad you managed to solve your problem, that apparently as due to having installed (and probably miss-configured) pulseaudio. You basically made sure that pulseaudio related packages were removed and that alsa (the default system used to process audio in antiX) related packages were purged (wiping out any previous existing config file) and then reinstalled.
              If you can, please edit the thread’s title, adding Solved- , so users with a similar problem can know that you managed to solve this (and how).

                OK – seems that the thread title is already amended accordingly.

                Pulseaudio was not installed when the problem emerged. I suspect that the new version update for chromium was a part of the problem. The installation of pulseaudio was suggested both in this forum and in the link referenced above. The resulting default pulseaudio sound software configuration worked as well as the stock alsa but did not help with the problem. The “last resort” in the reference link – purging and re-installing as indicated – may have been the preferred first thing to try after all. 😀
