Hi, still new to Linux. Installed Mint XFCE on a Jumper EZbook 2 . Could only hear the sound from the right speaker underneath the laptop when a headset was plugged in (but nothing from the headset). Nuked the laptop, and installed Antix 22 Full; no I have no sound at all. Have tried following this thread , but not sure how to run this script in the terminal . Please help, really want to use Antix.

        Hi and welcome.
Probably there may be some problem with the sound card (if 2 different ditros have problems with it). Try antiX Menu > Control Center > Hardware and select a sound card first and then test it. Also check the volume, and if it’s not muted.

        P.

Thanks. Checked the sound card and tested it (see image), also checked ‘Adjust Mixer’ and ‘Alsamixer Equalizer’ (see images). It’s not muted. Weird, in the bottom right corner, it normally says ‘DAC:Mono’ but when I restarted it it now says ‘Pre-AMP’, neither of them work.

Please post the output on the sound card from the system info in the control centre.

I seem to recall a thread were the problem turned out to be that the sound was set to output to the hdmi port.

As far as running a .sh script, you should find info on doing that in your favorite search engine…

Not sure if you mean this:

              Audio:
Device-1: Intel Atom/Celeron/Pentium Processor x5-E8000/J3xxx/N3xxx Series Imaging Unit
              driver: N/A
              Sound Server-1: ALSA v: k5.10.142-antix.2-amd64-smp running: yes

but this info I found under ‘PC Information’, then ‘View Audio’.

Please try the latest kernel and headers
                sudo apt update
                sudo apt install linux-headers-6.1.11-antix.1-amd64-smp linux-image-6.1.11-antix.1-amd64-smp

reboot and try again the sound.
If the new kernel does not boot your laptop you can boot into the older kernel over the advanced options in the boot screen and afterwards remove the new kernel.

Edit: I forgot, you have to remove the rtl8821ce-dkms and exfat-dkms before installing the newer kernel.

This window quickly comes up and disappears quickly when I ‘Test Sound’ in the ‘Control Centre’ (see image). Also, this is how it looks like in the ‘Sound Card Chooser’ in the ‘Control Centre’ (see image).

Point taken about running a script, it’s just that the script seems to contain superfluous info (like the smiley), and I am just sure what info of the text I need, and how to ‘run’/’finish’ the script.

Is this with the new kernel from above?

Have not checked yet, you were quick enough to write while I was writing my 2nd post to Pun Ranger’s question. Which he has to excuse, new to this and not that tech savvy. Back to you Caprea, when I did the things you asked me to update in the terminal, I can now not connect nor find any WiFi (see image).

                          Try
                          sudo service connman restart

Does the new kernel help for the sound? If not you might have to go back to the older kernel because of the wifi.
                          Could you post your hardware

For running the script it’s just
                          cd Downloads
                          sudo sh es8316.sh

The new kernel did not help the sound. I tried ‘sudo service connman restart’, and it did not work. For me to easier post the hardware, is there a way of getting the wifi back, or roll back the changes? I have tried all 3 different options in the advance menu, none of them gave me the chance to connect to the wifi again.

I’m a bit puzzled what happened to your wifi. When i looked for your hardware on the web Jumper EZbook 2, it’s always said it’s a broadcom wifi bluetooth combo card.

Is it by chance a Realtek RTL8821CE, which I said you should remove the rtl8821ce-dkms ?

If not, could you try the antix-wifi-switcher
                              menu > applications > antix > antix-wifi-switcher
Switch to ceni and afterwards back to connman, it hopefully will help.
If you have indeed the Realtek RTL8821CE card for wifi, I apologize for any inconvenience.
You would have to download it from here and install it manually from an usb-stick .
Cant you get connected via fixed mainline connection? So sorry.

In your script link. I read Ubuntu and Opensuse commented out but not debian.
But being the poke and hope guy around here I will mention on how I would run that script.

                                Download the .sh tp /home/username

Make sure it has execute permissions enabled

                                chmod +x es8316.sh

I am going to use the original file name. One can rename it if they want to like sound.sh or whatever after double checking execute properties in rox file manager or zzzfm.

After permissions are checked. It is execute you want

                                ./es8316.sh

Then the fireworks start. I had to do the same on this chromebook. I suggested downloading the .sh to /home/username to keep from cd ing into a directory like Downloads. If you decide to do that. Just open a terminal in the Download directory and proceed that way.

Good luck. Crossing fingers for ya.

Edit. I run the 5 kernel on here. My sound fix carried over to the 4.9 also. I like you tried a later kernel. Broke my sound fix in that kernel.
                                If I was you. I would boot into a kernel where the wifi works and do the sound fix there. I uninstalled the 6 kernel from liqourix I tried on here as well as the Debian version 6 kernel image and headers. Kernel 5 is ok on here;

I left out a reboot will be needed after that script is run to check sound.

Edit again. I have pulse audio also installed via antiX software installer. Not synaptic.
