Hi. I use XMMS to play mp3 music files but, since yesterday, there’s no sound. No such a problem if I use MPV to play the same files. I suppose I’ve done sth wrong, but I’ve no idea what. Reinstalling XMMS didn’t help. Any idea?

Make sure preferences in xmms has your sound chip listed maybe.
Check alsamixer for any thing being muted.

          Thanks for the reply.
I can’t find any list of sound chips in XMMS preferences, but I don’t find it very possible to be the case because, as I wrote before, 2 days ago XMMS worked properly.
I got a glimpse of alsamixer, but if it caused the problem, I suppose I would have a general sound problem, including MPV etc.

If you didn’t ‘purge’ xmms, you will be using its .xmms folder in your /home.

Try purging it, & then re installing it.

Try settings in xmms – Options- Preferences – Outpit Plugin (ALSA)- Configure

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

That’s it! “Use software volume control” was unchecked. Obviously I had clicked on it by mistake; it’s the only explanation I can give. I turned it to checked and now it’s ok. Many thanks for your help.
