::Hello Lead Farmer.
Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum.
I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything, if your native language is not English, please translate my original Brazilian Portuguese text directly into your language with the help of internet translators.
Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:
What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum. When I first started using antiX, I read the tutorials that PPC created, these readings saved me a lot of time and I think it saves time for any new antiX user. Your time will not be wasted with these readings, everything will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You won’t waste your time searching the internet or even creating new topics, on the contrary, you will gain a lot of time with these readings.I recommend you try out desktops that have “zzz” in their name. I usually use zzz-IceWM or zzz-JWM or zzz-Fluxbox (each of these desktops has its own characteristics and consumes more or less resources), zzzFM will be the default file manager for your desktop, it it is very similar to the other file managers of other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access other antiX workspaces, click on Menu, Desktop, Other Desktops and click on the workspace name, instantly the workspace will be loaded.
Whenever you need to ask for help or technical support in this forum, please explain in detail what is happening, don’t mince words, be thorough when writing, tell your computer characteristics such as make and model. If possible, post the result of the command $ inxi -zv7 from the terminal, copy and paste here in the message of the topic that you are going to create in this forum.
When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify me of follow-up replies via email”, by checking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are replies from topic in question.
Now that you’ve received the instructions every newcomer needs, let’s get to your problems.
1) Sound don’t work when playing Steam games.
Have you checked if your computer makes sound in Firefox when accessing YouTube?
2) Sometimes when booting up I get this error “ata2:softreast failed (1st FIN failed)”
I get 3 of this messages before it give up and boot up,For this problem we will need help from antiX experts.
3) When I open websites Hebrew languge in a web browser it will not show the Hebrew characters in the taskbar.
Have you installed the translation for your language in the Firefox-ESR web browser?
In antiX 22, go to the antiX menu, Applications, antiX Updater. After the antiX update, go to the antiX menu, Applications, antiX, User Language (or Name[he]=שמתשמ תפש – this is an automatic translation and needs to be reviewed, corrected or improved by a native speaker), in the window that will be displayed invites people to become antiX volunteer translators, read the information and then close this window. Another window will appear, click on the “Locate Programs” (or “Translate the Programs”) button, another window will appear listing all the application programs that can be translated into the language the operating system was booted in, keep the selections and click the Install button.Everything that is not translated into your language with the steps I explained in the previous paragraph can be translated by you, if you are interested in becoming a volunteer translator for the antiX community. You can get more information in this topic antiX and antiX Application Program Translation Platforms.
4) My colors are off, I changed the gamma with xgamma, it there a way to change the hue or chroma?
For this problem we will need help from antiX experts.

::*On the sound problem:
You may want to try installing pulseaudio (available in antiX’s Package Installer) and enable it. After it’s installed in you r system: antiX Menu > Terminal
pulseaudio -Dthen try running your games – Please be aware that some users complain that, after installation they are unable to remove pulseaudio…
/On the hebrew characters – You probably need to install an hebrew font and use it as default font for your system?
You can install a font like “culmus” from Synaptic and use that, for example. I’m only guessing- but you can try changing your Font this way: antiX menu > Control Centre > IceWM… > Preferences
And at the end of the file add a line like this:
TitleFontName=[name_of_the_font_and_it’s_settings]Please search the text file to see an example for that setting – I never even tried messing with these settings…

If you are going to use PulseAudio for games, try to follow the tutorial that is in the text file (.txt) of archive.org Shortcut Icons Game Emulators for antiX. If you translate the text file into your language with the automatic translator and if you can send me the file, I will be very grateful and I will add it in the compressed “.zip” file that may be useful for other people. This tutorial is a compilation of teachings from the antiX forum, it demonstrates how to remove PulseAudio from antiX startup and keep AlsaMixer together with PipeWire in antiX startup.
3)I what to keep the English as the system language, the problem I think is with the system Font that not include Hebrew characters.
I am not able to do this test, but I know you can, because it seems you master both languages. Please try booting a LiveUSB from antiX in Hebrew language and check if the same problem happens with Hebrew characters. If the problem doesn’t happen with antiX booted with the Hebrew language, I believe this information might be useful for some expert to be able to help you.

1) The sound works find on all applications including the Steam store, but it’s not working when playing Steam games.
3)I what to keep the English as the system language, the problem I think is with the system Font that not include Hebrew characters.

::I’m glad that the sound problem was easy to fix. Despite some users having problems with pulseaudio (enough for me to consider it should not be preinstalled in antiX, and only installed if really needed) it’s always my go to suggestion for solving sound problems- app xyz does not have sound? Try installing pulseaudio- I’ve said that many, many times. For regular computer users that use only the default web browser and don’t run complex games, there’s probably no need for pulseaudio. But if you install something that does not have sound and if you launch that program from the terminal, with the perfix “apulse” and it still does not have sound? Usually pulseaudio fixes that…
I can tell you why Brave does display Hebrew characters on it’s titlebar but not in the taskbar- The window decoration that Brave uses (the part of the window that displays the title/tabs, the minimize, restore and close buttons) is not rendered by antiX itself but by Brave- that’s why it looks different from say, the title of the terminal, or firefox, or zzzfm, etc… And Brave includes hebrew fonts, antiX it seems does not.
Like I said, I’m unsure on how to solve that problem, since I never edited those settings myself… So, my suggestion:
1- install an hebrew font- either by using Synaptic or the terminal- for the one I suggested, you can use the terminal like so (if you already ran sudo apt update in your computer):
sudo apt install culmusThis install that font in your system.
2- The second, and harder part is knowing how to tell antiX to use that font on icewm’s toolbar- since you can risc having only the hebrew font and not a latin based one (i.e- you can risk displaying titles in hebrew ok, but ruin the possibility of seeing non hebrew titles- I don’t know, I’ve never tried that!)
I’ll try to show you what I think you should do to change the font as you want, but I don’t know if that will work or mess anything up!!!
To edit the setting, do this: antiX menu > Control Centre > IceWM… > “Preferences” Tab >
On the end of text file, add a new line. Since you want to change the toolbar font, try something like this:TitleFontName=culmus
(I’m unsure if you need to add something else, it seems so, from this example, in the config file: TitleFontName=”-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-16-*”
Save the file and restart your session. See if you notice any change. If you notice any problem, redo the previous steps and delete the line you added, save the file and restart your session…P.

::@marcelocripe I tied changing the format language to Hebrew and it did show the the Hebrew Hebrew characters in taskbar.
December 14, 2022 at 5:23 pm #95653MemberLead Farmer
::@PPC I tried it and it didn’t work, but as @marcelocripe suggest changing the format language to Hebrew, did show the Hebrew characters, so it’s not the problem with the Font.
