I’m trying to install the full 19.3 on an older laptop (Core M Duo, 1GB RAM).

When I boot from USB I need to add acpi=false otherwise it won’t boot.
Then it runs a UI and stops working at a certain point #1

      I then need to run cli-installer #2

I chose to use the entire disk and formatted it with ext4 #3

I get a bunch of errors while installing #4

And finally the no such file-issue #5

What’s going on here? Shouldn’t there be a graphical install? Why do I get those errors? Do I need to partition it differently?

I am almost 100% sure you are trying antiX 19.3 core or net (has no gui). Is this your intention?
If you want graphical installer, use antiX base.

If you want to build your own system from scratch, you have correctly selected the core version (you need to know what Window manager or Desktop environment you want and install packages from the terminal interface). So, are you creating your own partition table from scratch? Is it msdos or GPT? What partitions are you trying to create and what format are you giving them?

Is your laptop UEFI or BIOS based? Did you try failsafe boot option?

          Let us know your intentions

a4c8 said they were installing antiX Full but maybe the wrong image was accidentally downloaded.

Check to see if that is the case.

It’s still possible to add software to any of the other builds but a veteran or an enthusiast can work with core or net. That’s a lot to ask of a beginner unless they enjoy the trial and error until it becomes familiar.

Base or Full have enough software to be usable immediately.

I may have jumped to conclusions. Sorry.
I said this because I never see the “decorated” borders around the terminal text (caused by using splash=v boot code) in any other edition by default except for core/net editions.
The first screenshot IS probably from one of the other Full or Base versions, using the splasht boot option added by Bitjam to antiX 19.

Probably a photo of inxi -Fxz on the terminal window may help us figure out what is going on if failsafe or safe video doesn’t work to a GUI screen.

Sorry for jumping to conclusions to early.

                a4c8,

I ran into this “problem” with the cli installer, a while back — maybe this is the problem (maybe not) — but it seems very similar:

When you partition the hard drive with fdisk, and you choose the partitions, and you need to write the partitions to disk… it makes you answer yes/no.

You have to type “y e s” (type “yes,” NOT just “y”). If you just hit “y” then exit, that will NOT give you any partitions, and will give you NO SPACE to install on your expected partitions.

(I don’t have time to re-test if it throws the same errors as you got right now — grandchildren coming over for the night!)

                confirmed antiX frugaler, since 2019

I just installed 19.3 X64 base runit version on X220 booted fine to the usb desktop, gui installer worked, But their is something wrong with the grub installer, tried three times to install grub in different locations, to only end up at the grub rescue screen.
