Hi
this is a big request to antix devs : please separate free packages from non-free in antiX repos, so everyone has an opportunity to select repos with full knowledge of the facts.
There is a convention in debian source lists to separate them, see man sources.list for instance.
MX repos are following that convention, antix’ aren’t.
Here’s an example of a non-free package lying in the main antix repo in MX :
Package: firmware-linux-nonfree
Source: firmware-nonfree
Version: 0.43.3
Architecture: all
Maintainer: Debian Kernel Team <debian-kernel@lists.debian.org>
Installed-Size: 6690
Suggests: initramfs-tools
Breaks: firmware-ivtv (<< 0.38~), firmware-linux (<< 0.19)
Replaces: firmware-ivtv (<< 0.38~), firmware-linux (<< 0.19)
Multi-Arch: foreign
Homepage: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git
Priority: optional
Section: main
Filename: pool/main/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-linux-nonfree_0.43.3_all.deb
Size: 1651050
SHA256: c5006c09eb77703d637c8e7d964f7a6a52034e8c6f4940ca23361e2cf402c694
SHA1: cf9818b2497c8bd168c26efddb349e887d1cc46c
MD5sum: 512e5f6d3307acd511d56372606ab5de

GNU/Linux is different from non free OS in that it lets you run a PC without all the proprietary/closed software, if you don’t need them.
So please make this easier for the “average user” !
thanks

::Actually amateurs was not the right word, I was just trying to push you a little
I’ve just been checked by the french police, 1/2 an hour ago, no bullshit
Checked twice by the bloody bastards
Three police cars for a supposed burglary, fucking bastards, yeah they were probably looking for me cause I was squatting in the garden of a house for sale. Just as I was jumping above the wall, a cop was coming in with a torch and he didn’t notice me on the other side. Just like in a movie. And then I took my bag on the wall ans my bike and was arrested by cops coming my way 30 secs later, 2 checks in 5 minutes. But they found nothing of course, I was just tryin to chill somehow in the sunset. They didn’t understood I was the guy. Some people have 2 houses, others have none, they call this Egalité, fucking hypocrites.
Anyway during the second check, the pig told me I was “lucky to live in a country that has a professional police”. Yeah they’re talking about a liberal mafia that has monopoly on firearms usage. So yeah just to say I prefer amateur spirit in any thing 🙂

Maybe your sources.list got lost when you jumped over the wall to get to a garden hose?well you should ask pigs themselves cause I’m a vegetarian
“Piggies”
Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt?
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around inHave you seen the bigger piggies
In their starched white shirts?
You will find the bigger piggies
Stirring up the dirt
Always have clean shirts to play around inIn their styes with all their backing
They don’t care what goes on around
In their eyes there’s something lacking
What they need’s a damn good whackingEverywhere there’s lots of piggies
Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon(One more time…)

::New nonfree section added to antiX stretch, testing and sid repos.
As you can see in the stretch nonfree repo antiX stretch/nonfree debs this includes a few packages, but for testing and sid only adobe-flashplugin.
Users should change their /etc/apt/sources.d/antix.list if you want to upgrade non-free debs to this:
# Use with Debian Stable/stretch repositories. Set as default for antiX-17. Note new repos deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch stretch main nosystemd nonfree # Use with Debian Testing repositories. #deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/testing testing main nosystemd nonfree # Use with Debian Sid repositories. #deb http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch stretch main nosystemd nonfreeOf course, if you want to be clean/libre than do not use nonfree nor non-free in debian.list in the repo lists

::Wow I can’t believe I missed this thread. What an event! LOL
The point of this distro isn’t 100% pure squeaky clean licensing, it’s mainly to bring life into old PCs, and it has always had the option to install the libre core version if you so desire and build up from there (good luck with that). Jokers amok in this thread to be sure, but GNU/Linux Libre standards are far too uptight for every day users. For example pretty much every website on planet earth uses Javascript now, so good luck avoiding that.
