      Hello!
I have an older N-Vidia card with an S-Video output, and I’m trying to get it output in NTSC, instead of PAL.
According to this link, I should be able to set this with the tv_norm parameter, however, I can’t seem to get it to work. I’ve some hopefully relevant command outputs below. Also, in terms of my general problem, I’ve also tried setting it with xrandr and nvtv, neither of which work. I also tried setting the parameter in GRUB, which didn’t seem to work either.

      Thanks!

      # /etc/sysctl.conf - Configuration file for setting system variables
      # See /etc/sysctl.d/ for additional system variables.
      # See sysctl.conf (5) for information.
      #
      nouveau.tv_norm = NTSC-M
      #kernel.domainname = example.com

      # Uncomment the following to stop low-level messages on console
      #kernel.printk = 3 4 1 3

I don’t know about TV output, but I think its likely the card is no longer supported by Debian, or x-org, and therefore can’t be supported by antiX. If you have problems with the card try booting from flashdrive with older antiX versions to find one old enough where the card is supported. My guess is it will be antiX 16.

I’m no expert. Look for recent posts by others with older nvidia cards.

The card works great, I’m getting video out of it, the problem is that there are no kernel parameters related to Nouveau available in /proc/sys. Unless they’re able to be set somewhere else, I think that would be a problem with all video cards

To avoid possible misunderstandings, can you post the output of
            sudo cat /proc/cmdline

I am not sure how you are trying to load the module based on your initial post.

You can check all module options for nouveau with
              modinfo nouveau
check to see if tv_norm is an option there.

To load the module, you can do:
              sudo modprobe nouveau tv_norm=NTSC-M
and see if it works. If it does, that is good (and you will have to try to configure other things, like color, framrate etc.).
To add it as a permanent boot parameter, you need to edit /etc/default/grub file, as has been explained in other forum threads.

Thanks for the advice! Turns out update-grub wasn’t actually updating grub.cfg, so I edited it directly and it worked great!

Once you have it all working could you post the details of how your card is working in case it might help others with older nVidia cards? I have 6 or 8 of the 5200 and 5500 NV3x variety, and had to go buy an ATI card to get over 1280×1024 out of my older machines.

The guru’s here probably know better than I, but I think we would need:

                  lspci -v
                  lsmod
                  inxi -Fxz
                  xrandr
                  cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Maybe you could attach them in a .zip file?
