            You could post the /var/log/apt/history.log
So we might see what’s the culprit here during update.
The fbdev driver should not be loaded for the card.
It might helps to blacklist it.

Is there a etc/X11/xorg.conf on your system?

              Here is my history.log

Is there a etc/X11/xorg.conf on your system?

There is an “xorg.conf.in” file though! What is it?

The fbdev driver should not be loaded for the card.
It might helps to blacklist it.

I tried creating a configuration file, from my home folder pasting into modprobe folder, but I failed.

What’s the proper thing to do it?

nvidafb and fbdev are kernel modules
To blacklist them you can follow this “howto”
                  https://wiki.debian.org/KernelModuleBlacklisting

If you still have questions please feel free to ask.
However, I’m a bit worried that your desktop won’t boot at all afterwards to a working desktop.
That risk can not be excluded.
Then you can take a live-stick for help and from there delete the created blacklist-files again.

So, I created a folder called “toumbo.conf” and blacklisted those modules with two separate blacklist lines. Then, used “depmod -a” because “depmod -ae” returned the error “depmod: WARNING: -e needs -E or -F”. Lastly “update-initramfs -u” completed this procedure.

                    inxi returns now:

I’m afraid this is only a temporary solution! How can we find the root of this issue?

Sorry, I forgot to think of this before. Does it also happen if you use the 4.9 kernel before and during the upgrades ?

Edit: Why do you think it’s a temporary solution,if everything is working now like you expected ?

Unfortunately, I did not happen checking with the legacy kernel

Of course is a solid solution and I’m satisfied with the outcome but, I’m not willing to face it again, caprea!
