      Hey guys!

stumbled upon your distribution while trying to get use out of a 12 year old Compaq Presario CQ-60, boasting a MONSTER single core Intel Celeron 900 processor and a whopping 2GB of RAM. I doubt it even ran Windows Vista smoothly back then. l0l

I got it from a guy when he saw my eyes tear up from nostalgia, as I remembered the design from the Compaq Mini 110c netbook, the best goddamn little compwuter I have ever owned with the exception for a Commodore 64…

I miss those netbooks so much.. Damn, look at it! JUST LOOK AT IT!

      Compaq Mini 110c

I want to kiss it softly and whisper sweet seductions into its ports…

YEAH SO ANYWAY, I took a quick glance at the forums and took an instant liking to the people here and the ideals that clearly underpin your project. You have my genuine respect and appreciation.

I think I’ll hang around a bit, I don’t have anywhere else to go on the internet anyway, it’s all gone to shit…

      Peace

Welcome to the forum! Antix should do well on that netbook.

AntiX, Lilidog, PCLinuxOS, Mabox, SparkyLinux, Bodhi

          Welcome to the forums.

As you have no doubt discovered, antiX is great for reviving old hardware. I have it on an old winXP netbook, 3 vista laptops and a Win7 mini-tower – I am truly blessed 🙂

Agreed! I’ve been playing with the idea of buying a Commodore 64 to recap, etc. Wish I had not sold it to buy an A500. :*(

              Welcome to antiX!

Thanks! And yeah, there is something magical about the C64. I was lucky enough to have had both the Commodore and then the A500, both truly inspired machines…

And as for antiX running on the Presario I got, HOLY SHIT. I’m still funking around with the Live version, and *everything* worked instantly out of the box, and SO DAMNED FAST! I distro hopped a lot to find a perfect match for this hardware, so went through Bunsenlabs, Puppy, MATE, Lubuntu, Xubuntu and some others. While some of them worked better than others, they all ran more or less like molasses, all had minor and\or major hardware issues, and in a few cases broke down completely after a while, forcing a new install.

It’s only been a few hours but I’m loving antiX so far, you can tell that a lot of thought and wise decisions went into it.

All right, take it ease, guyz!

Did any computer ever actually run ‘Win-Doze’ Vista smoothly? (I doubt it; that OS is one of the reasons I switched to Linux years ago)

I found antiX is an excellent way to get more life out of an older machine. antiX works a treat on both my Lenovo Thinkpad T430s and Samsung N150 netbook.

I bought an eee pc 1015bx in 2012. It came with Win 7 “starter edition”. It was completely unusable, so slow! It made me discover linux, thats about the only good thing I can say about windows.

                        Hello anarchy_79.

Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum.

I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything, if your native language is not English, please translate my original Brazilian Portuguese text directly into your language with the help of internet translators.

Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
                        How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.

When I first started using antiX, I read the tutorials that PPC created, these readings saved me a lot of time and I think it saves time for any new antiX user. Your time will not be wasted with these readings, everything will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You won’t waste your time searching the internet or even creating new topics, on the contrary, you will gain a lot of time with these readings.

I recommend you try out desktops that have “zzz” in their name. I usually use zzz-IceWM or zzz-JWM or zzz-Fluxbox (each of these desktops has its own characteristics and consumes more or less resources), zzzFM will be the default file manager for your desktop, it it is very similar to the other file managers of other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access other antiX workspaces, click on Menu, Desktop, Other Desktops and click on the workspace name, instantly the workspace will be loaded.

Whenever you need to ask for help or technical support in this forum, please explain in detail what is happening, don’t mince words, be thorough when writing, tell your computer characteristics such as make and model. If possible, post the result of the command $ inxi -Fxz from the terminal, copy and paste here in the message of the topic that you are going to create in this forum.

When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify me of follow-up replies via email”, by checking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are replies from topic in question.

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.

How to: correctly use antiX forum.
