::from https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/cant-get-the-sound-to-work-with-any-linux-distro-ive-tried-so-far-please-help/23500/19 It seems to suggest that I may have to install SOF 2.1.1 … so I will hunt that down (the version I installed was 1.7). Interestingly the OP in that thread has the same brand of laptop as me, and has done a lot of looking and had not much luck with ANY Linux distro, but like me, the sound is fine under Windows. Though at least my card is actually detected, unlike in that case.

::it isn’t the first time for me that things have checked out in the BIOS and not worked under Linux (specifically AntiX)AntiX is debian based, even a couple of companys ownwd by IBM removed video codecs..
Please be fair. the problem is not antiX, IT IS very much the consumer is a cash cow politics in particular of many US companys.
The message is buy a crappy broken OS aus USA or forget multimedia…October 3, 2022 at 7:38 pm #90122Memberstevesr0
::hi kpollock,
One of the major reasons people come to a user forum is to deal with problems and learn from others. I have not had your problem, but reading your notes gave me a chance to review my own audio. In my case (with fairly old hardware), my onboard audio is recognized and used quite nicely.
So I suspect that it is an issue not with onboard sound in general but a particular issue with either your computer’s sound card (or the linux firmware/software support for it).
I appreciate your efforts to find a fix and keep the forum updated. Others may benefit from your contributions.
Thanks.

::https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/cant-get-the-sound-to-work-with-any-linux-distro-ive-tried-so-far-please-help/23500/25. gave me some ideas.
I can’t find SOF other than 1.7 for Bullseye 🙁
But I’ve now bricked the laptop with an ill-advised change of Target OS to Linux in the BIOS. (Don’t do this peeps!). I am laughing and crying (and waiting for the small screwdrivers to come to open the case and pull the CMOS battery. My 3 month old kitten a thinks he can do better – and he’s probably right too!

If you have a USB stick containing antiX, fear not! You can install antiX, simply run from the USB all the time (possibly choosing one of the “Frugal” modes to save some content on the physical hard drive (if you wish) or come in lean and simple all the time; you definitely have options and alternatives.
You may also be able to use that stick to recover the “bricked” system and/or repair it, though this may take some “know how”; it may be simpler and easier to reinstall the systems you choose to keep on this hardware, but as I mentioned already, you certainly have alternatives and choices. Best wishes; keep us informed.
If you have specific questions, do ask, though we respectfully request that you review our main site and some of the suggestions first; that tends to result in better ideas and questions, and sometimes provides answers for you.

::I have the usb but nothing happens when I powerup with it in. I don’t get the POST screen, no manufacturer graphic, nothing. Tried ext kbd and screen but usb/hdmi sometimes don’t kick in until later, I think?
Power light is on, but caps lock etc lights don’t light up so keyboard not being reacted to.
Never been here before, in dozens of machines, could always get the BIOS 🙁

::To be clear. It makes no difference if I have the live USB in or out. I still do not even get the manufacturer splash screen and cannot get into the BIOS.

::But that’s my issue to solve and not an AntiX one! I’ll be back when I’ve sorted this out.
