::Thanks anticapitalista,
maybe good for later readers if we add that the preferences also contains quite a few key definitions,
I am guessing it modifies or can modify default key definition.
BobC can clarify that for sure. i have just left as is up to now.Both are in the hidden file /home/your username/.icewm.
Please users make a backup before changes, you can end up with an unusable desktop. Easy to fix from live
but no need for the pain. just login to flux and delete or rename broken prefs, rename backup, switch back
to ice and break it again because you made a dozen changes and do not know which was the culprit đ
Words from experience. If you have backups have fun, have none it can be a dose of misery.December 13, 2021 at 2:51 pm #72852Member

::Hi Anti-Team again,
1) Thanks you “blur 13”
Your provides info hits the cord “numeric” keypad left arrow key” tinkled my glued attention from the wrong sets of keys arrow Left/Right/UP/Down(this sets only arrows) be shifted to the ones with arrows/numeric. Tested working !
2) Thanks you Anticapitalista for providing keys-mapping layouts, but I think I need some time to digest that.
3) Appreciates Moddit for those extra information.
4) As from Boc
key “Super+Left” wingrid-left.sh
key “Super+Right” wingrid-right.sh
key “Super+Up” wingrid-top.sh
key “Super+Down” wingrid-bottom.sh
How to make the above work ? If you care to explain further, otherwise, the above information is suffice to ‘Close’ my questionnaire.GoodDay to all !

::https://ice-wm.org/man/icewm-keys Is of interest, now I know more on how keyfile and prefs intertwine.

geany ~/.icewm/keys
You can then add the four lines you reference at the end of the file or in the corresponding lines where “wingrid” is mentioned, so that you can later locate it easier.antiX Live system enthusiast.

::After you add the lines to the ~/.icewm/keys file and save the changes, you need to restart IceWM for them to take effect. To do that, go to Menu>Logout>Restart IceWM
Sorry, I don’t know a way to do this with mouse only in IceWM. It would need to be a set of options on the window’s right click menu to do that, and that menu is not user programmable.
antiX also comes with a window manager called Fluxbox. Maybe would be capable of this, but I’m not that familiar with it to say.

::Completely Off topic (or maybe not)- since BobC got in touch with the icewm dev team before, do you guys think it’s possible to ask them to add a programmable titlebar menu entry that can run a custom script?
If that is done, I can put together a simple yad script that offers options to tile the window (for example, from what I saw on-line Windows 11 did a great job, offering some titling options when the user clicks the title bar buttons)Just an idea, please don’t burn me in a stake for it…

Burning at the stake is, of course, the proper punishment for the crime of heresy. Otherwise excommunication might be in order.

::Let me know the details of how it should work, first…
I had thought about requesting “Half screen” and “Quarter screen” 5 options each on a to be added “Split Screen” pulldown off the window menu.
The more I pondered on it, it made me realize its asking too much to make it completely programmable, it would need another separate menu file. So I asked for what the op wanted, with half sized screens, and quarter sized screens.

::Hi Antix-Team,
1) Tried the suggestion form Xsecure and its works!
2) Hit the chord ! suggestion by BobC, I click logout, Restart Session(I supposed you had mentioed:’IceWM’ means ‘Restart Session’) but not totally logout.Sorry that I am just a newbie, does not know about scripts nor any programming languages(of course I wished I could), my ignorant only raises questions on how a normal Desktop system should work by comparing with others.
Those who presents Flowers to others, left their own hands ‘Flower scents’.
Hi, Moddit, would you mind to close this discussion thread as ‘Solved’. Thank you.
GoodDay Antix-Team

::@BobC- my original idea was to see if IceWM devs could implement a title bar menu entry that only showed up if a certain script was present, and then ran that script- example: ~/.icewm/window-script.sh
In our particular case, window-script.sh would be a yad window that displayed several buttons, each with a picture that showed where the window would go: half left. half right, top half, top bottom (it could have a separator, displaying options to place the window in any quarter of the screen, etc). This would be far more visual and intuitive than selecting an option like “Place window on the Top half of the screen”…P.

::Hi BobC, not well received, understatement.
Ice dev wrote, There are more than 80 keyboard shortcuts. Not found that many by far, still searhing for them
in a human readable or reference format.
I think we still only scratch the surface of what ice can do, been looking through https://www.mankier.com/1/icesh
Seems more detailed than man pages. Some things we are doing already but so much more seems possible.December 14, 2021 at 11:18 pm #72955ModeratorBobC
::PPC, I figured another way…
Your idea is good.
We CAN add options to the menus and toolbar! Normal folks can then just click on it with minimal knowledge or remembering of keys. I tested the idea by adding options to the menu that run WinGrid. Maybe it would also work from the toolbar?
So, if your yad pop up was to remember what window was active before it popped up, couldn’t it then allow you to resize and move that window?
