::Had to add:
Pro Icewm hardcoded, it is the most compact option, and for antiX maintenance free.
Same over all icewm setups so easy for users to understand when they move to antiX :-)..
Work on things like RASPI, mine runs an antiX lookalike.On top advanced options are fine with me and for sure users.
Digging in the source of Icewm frame and frame Build instructions it seems that win left right top bottom were already thought of, maybe unfinished.
The code for right click frame menu was easy to find and recognise.December 16, 2021 at 2:25 pm #73053ModeratorBobC
::I asked the IceWM Devs to build it in if possible or give us a hook to call PPC’s script if not…
I think it would be best built into IceWM adding sub menu “Tile” or “Tiling” under Move and Size on the Window Titlebar menu with the options and (if you like), the icons I provided. Then it would be available on all distros. I’ve been using it a few days now from the menu, and even from there it’s very handy, getting used many times per day, and others are adding it to their menus and using it as well.
If it can’t be built in similar to above, then please could you give us a hook to add a custom menu option on that menu so we can run our own script to add the enhancement for antiX users, adding that to antiX’s IceWM and WinGrid packages.

::@Bobc – I like the icons idea- because I’m a very visual person (like most people, and prefer to look at an icon over reading a menu entry). Using icons also has a nice plus- it’s localization free, works across all languages.
My only “complaint” is that the “screen quarter” icons are clearly not proportional, and that may confuse users (I mean the representation of the window is bigger than 1/4 of the screen representation)…
I didn’t get the meaning of the very first icon- “place above other windows”, maybe?P.

::Thanks BobC,
Icons easy for anyone to understand (famous last words).
Hope ice devs include shortcuts.
My rodent (mouse) died a few days ago, that left me tapping keys.
Reminded me it is much faster to keep hands on the keyboard.I took the first icon to mean collapse window to the dock.

::The first one with all of the types of windows shown is for the submenu itself.
I did TRY to make nice icons. On a real screen they looked fine to me, but I make no claim to being a great artist. I can upload the individual icons if someone wants to improve them.

::Moddit, You need to click the pic. The forum view has chopped off the top of the pic, so you are only seeing the bottom 1/3 of that icon.

::With amazing speed the IceWM Devs have the hardcoded version written and ready to test (17 programs changed!). I’ll be trying to compile and test it tonight or tomorrow night.

::I compiled IceWM from Git, and tested all of the new Tile submenu options, and all worked perfectly with no issues at all.
PS: I changed the subject 🙂

::This was noticed quickly in userland, I tried to build it, the patched version, failed dismally
more than once.
Hopefully one of the experts or anticapitalista has time and takes pity on the less capable.
We usully manage to install a deb on our own :-).Many thanks to Bobc and Icewm devs for yet more ease of usage, on a big wide monitor, like the
one my daughter owns the half half split is sure to be used a lot.December 22, 2021 at 10:16 am #73422Member

::The new version of ICE is now in the antiX repos! The tile menu is there! It works perfectly! There is even an option to tile all windows either horizontally or vertically, complete with a keyboard shortcut. So you can have two windows side by side in no time at all. I guess this is goodbye to WinGrid.
Thanks to the devs for moving so quickly to get this update into the repos! Thanks to BobC for getting in touch with the icewm guys!
It’s been really cool to watch something discussed in these message boards get pushed into the actual software at such a speed. This would never happen on MacOS or Windows.

::Its working on mine, too. I needed to restart IceWM to be able to see it on the menu. The WinGrid keys should be left in the distro, IMO, because they are much quicker than mousing around especially if you have a numeric keypad, and WinGrid is still needed for the other desktops, anyway.
Thanks for getting it into the distro quickly for us, anticapitalista!

Nice idea this tilling options.
But for IceWM, the icons are .xpm by default, and it is better than .png (for IceWM)December 22, 2021 at 8:51 pm #73451MemberModdIt
::Thanks anticapitalista,
now have the official version installed, been running new version since late late Dec 17,
I think the split left right to 50% will be really useful, nearest I get to tiling :-). -
