::Hi BobC,
You are 100% correct in surmising that I am not a “heavy duty” coder.
I am just a curious (permanent) noobie <g>. I really was puzzled that openbox launches just fine with no entries in init or initrc.
I posted partly to satisfy that curiosity and partly because I saw posts on the AntiX forum from folks who had difficulty getting openbox to launch.
I am pretty satisfied with the system that I have cobbled together. It boots fast and openbox starts “instantaneously” from startx.
How would a respin enable me to learn more about coding than this current system?
Thanks.

::Look at things that already work 🙂
I believe skidoo refers to this as “cargo culture”, but it sure beats everyone being asked to research non-antiX components which some of us might know, but eats into the time we would be able to spend helping people that need help with antiX.
There is much to be learned from looking at things that work! Make little changes and see if you can make it do what you want.

::This is what I get when installing openbox as the only window manager (or the last one) – update-alternatives apparently is set to update when window managers are installed. That must be why it starts without any manual setup…

::@Likkmii – it seems that at least conky has some kind of problem on that distro- the numbers are writen above each other (look at the minutes, at the clock and the cpu usage…
I ran openbox a few times- it’s light and minimal. But the antiX dev team favored it’s cousin, fluxbox… and now I’m quite hooked to it- I’ve always wandered when a new fluxbox version will come out – they keep making changes, to the source code, with patches, but the latest (unofficial) version was skidoo’s (that added, for example, text quick launchers to the toolbar).
I tested other window managers and D.E.’s on antiX, but last time it messed up my system real bad, so, right now I use fluxbox with ft10-transformation… I’m wondering how well that package would run on openbox…

Unfortunately, you have totally ruined the overall impression with your “configuration” of the original-Conky, as you can see.March 21, 2022 at 9:18 pm #79540Member

I know I’m way off topic – but that’s why the antix repo offers ft10-transformation – it provides a very similar GUI to the one on the screen grabs, without having to install any other Os or Window Manager…
