Hi.
When I install a program from the package installer, it goes through the apt-get update loading bar, says it has successfully installs, but nothing happened. It was working fine until after I attempted a Wine installation. It was going fine, but I quit out once it asked about Git, and asked me to choose a partition. I don’t know if this has to do with it. I haven’t touched anything else otherwise.
What could be the problem?
Thanks for any help.

::Go have a look at the first post in this thread, and just try to run down the list for obvious solutions until you get to the part about creating a post to get help. To be honest, at this point we don’t know enough about what you have, what you did, what you are trying to do, or what went wrong to help you, so see if you can fill in the blanks, and then we can try to help.

This is the part I’m referring to:
Before creating a topic here to ask for help:
– Is your system up to date? Updates to the packages with fixes are posted daily. If your system isn’t updated, you could be running old versions of programs that had bugs that have already been fixed. Run the antiX updater to get it up to date.
antiX menu button >> Applications >> antiX >> antiX Updater– After your system is up to date:
– If you are running it from a flashdrive you don’t want to shutdown or reboot unless you are using persistence or remaster because the program updates you did will be lost
antiX menu button >> Logout >> Logout button then log back in to restart everything
– Now try running the program having problems to see if the problem happens again.
If the problem is still happening:
– We need to know what exact version of antiX you are running
Open a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+t or antiX menu button >> Terminal and run inxi to get a listing of what your system is running. It will create a file in your $HOME directory called inxi.txt that you should attach to your post.inxi -zv7 > ~/inxi.txt
Provide the details:
– The other important thing is to tell us in detail what program you are running, including the version, if you have made any changes to the way antiX came configured, and in detail what steps starting with login we need to take to recreate your problem.– Did you get an error message or does the screen give any useful information? Type it in or take a screenshot (the Print key runs the screenshot program) and attach it to your post.
Please let us know how you installed or tried to install WINE, what package you are now having problems installing, and take a screenshot of any screen showing errors.
If its easier, since antiX installs quickly, you could reinstall from the flashdrive, and just start back at the beginning trying to install WINE, and we can see if we can get that to work for you.
BTW, did you consider installing PlayonLinux instead? It is a frontend that includes WINE and makes it easy to run, and is available under Games on the Package Installer.

::Hi BobC. I looked through the thread you linked. I don’t know enough about what I’m doing to make a good question, TBH. I’m going to reinstall and try again.

::This time install playonlinux instead, please. Its much easier to work and under the covers it runs WINE for you.
anticapitalista or dolphin_oracle, there is a packaging problem with mx or winehq-staging, see log below. It would be nice if when the package installer has a problem installing if it would leave the screen up showing the problem (so the user could take a screenshot or copy/paste the text) and putting it in a log file where someone like myself might easily find it. I ran the code from Wine.pm in a root terminal to get the following:
# apt-get install -t mx winehq-staging Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: winehq-staging : Depends: wine-staging (= 8.0-0rc3-0mx21+1) E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.January 19, 2023 at 6:33 am #97663ModeratorBobC
::3TRAINERPOK,
Its no hill for a climber. Maybe it looks hard, but in time you can figure things out if you try. Something I’ve learned is that as long as you keep trying and learning, and trying and learning, and don’t give up, your chances of eventual success increase dramatically.
Try to learn to use the roxterm terminal enough to run the inxi command and paste in the results. If you really really are scared of the terminal window, you will find it is also available from the antiX menu >> Control Centre >> Hardware tab >> PC Information >> Full Information option.
But yes, starting over and installing playonlinux instead was the easy answer.
Hope you get it working 🙂

::for me lutris was much easier to install (brings in wine as well). but i don’t play games, was just testing it.
playonlinux and wine always had issues, but lutris was pretty straightforward and worked without much fuss.February 9, 2023 at 7:57 pm #99299Memberdr-kart
