      Hello, I just installed AntiX 17.2, using the Stretch repositories, on a Thinkpad X201 Tablet.
      I used cli-aptiX to upgrade my packages (80 packages). However, I reboot that computer, and
      instead of launching the desktop, it just hangs!

      I’m not sure what the problem is – is it a kernel upgrade? The laptop BIOS? Some boot setting?

      On a similar note, I noticed that I’m not able to run an MX-17 live USB on that laptop.
      Something similar happens – when it would normally launch the desktop, it would just hang;
      I suspect that the two issues are related.

      Hopefully, somebody has some advice on this.

      Thanks in advance.

        Howdy and Welcome. Kinda hard to figure where things are going wrong for me because not enough details given. So I suggest.

        Start over . Don’t upgrade.

        post these outputs after a fresh install.

        inxi -Fxzr

        and in root terminal.

        apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

        do not say yes. Copy that readout to your next post. Close root terminal. You do not want to dist-upgrade yet. So basically. We are simulating a dist-upgrade but we are canceling it before it starts.

        Hopefully some other ibm x201 user may weigh into this thread with some cool tips.

          Debian has recently updated grub.So you were probably affected by it during the upgrade.

            Thanks for the video link; though for some weird reason, I suspect that grub has nothing to do with it –
            I had actually done that particular update before my system had borked, and everything was fine; I was even using Sid! I had
            come to suspect that Sid was to blame, so I had done a fresh install using Stretch, and to my surprise, the same thing was happening.

            One thing I at least had noticed in Sid was that I could use, say, Ctrl+Alt+F1 or +F2 to get to a login terminal, and actually still use my system from there;
            I just could never get into X. Now, it’s even worse – it just shows a black screen, as if no image had loaded, and I can’t get into my ttys.

            Here are the requested outputs.

              Now you have me thinking it is hardware problem I’d blacklist grub update and see if problem goes away. I hope you know how to pin a package in debian.

                I just had a thought.

                dmesg

                Might have mention of hardware failure.

                locate dmesg

                will help you find the file. You can read the file with cat in terminal using

                harry@biker:~
                $ cd /var/log
                harry@biker:/var/log
                $ sudo leafpad dmesg

                Look for something broke line entries .

                  Besides trying the above, also wondering what is happening here. The updates look quite normal and shouldn’t do any harm.
                  There was a problem with a boot-delay on some thinkpads with a wacom digitizer,xserver-xorg-core from stretch related ,which at that time, has been patched by anticapitalita to function normally.
                  So are you sure the black screen wasn’t a bootdelay( long delay of 5 minutes)?
                  This is just a guess.On the other hand I’m pretty sure anti also patched the upgraded version of xserver-xorg-core.
                  Also I don’t know for sure if the Thinkpad X201 is affected by this at all.
                  Hierax_ca is the expert for Thinkpads and should get in touch with you here.

                  BTW, testing and sid repos should not be involved by this

                    The problem was, in fact, a boot-delay of some seven minutes (I estimate).

                    I’ve uninstalled xserver-xorg-input-wacom, and the boot-delay is now gone.

                    Thanks to all for your help in this matter.

                      Yes, deinstalling xserver-xorg-input-wacom is a workaround for the bootdelay, but as you probably know, you will lose support for the wacom digitizer.
                      So it’s not a real solution.
                      Obviously the xserver-xorg-core 2.1.19.-1.0nosystemd2, which is the default on antix17.2, was patched for the bootdelay
                      and apparently the xserver-xorg-core 2.1.19.-1.0nosystemd4 is not.
                      Best is to pm anticapitalista and getting him aware of this thread.

                        new xorg debs now in repos with the wacom patch fix (xserver-xorg-core 2.1.19.-1.0nosystemd5)

                        Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

                        antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

                          Ah, that is interesting about version 4 not being patched for the wacom digitizer bug.

                          I had the wacom problem with a prolonged boot and eventually it was solved in part by using a patch by Stevo.

                          However, that patched version wasn’t patched against the security bug.

                          So I tried switching to the patched version in the antix repos (I think that was version 4) and got a black screen. I probably didn’t wait long enough to realize that it was the wacom bug all over again.

                          Since I am now using a new version of the packages provided by Stevo which are patched against both and having no problem, I will not try out version 5 at this time.

                            I’ve upgraded to xserver-xorg-core 2.1.19.-1.0nosystemd5, and have reinstalled xserver-xorg-input-wacom.
                            I now have touchscreen functionality back. Feels good!

                            I’d like to mark this thread as solved (at least for me, it’s been solved 360°), but don’t know how – any tips?

                              I installed version “5” on my Lenovo Yoga (116e) and it works fine so far.
