I was thinking of opening a new thread for publishing links to packages to test before they are added (or requested to be added) to the antiX repos.
This thread is aimed ONLY for:
      A. Building packages that are requested for antiX (lets try not to make it like MX package request, and ONLY request for core package updates).
      B. Testing and giving feedback on these packages (only feedback, no opinion except if it is related to how bad the package is performing compared to previous versions).
      C. Updating on the package status or changes to make it “stable”
      D. Informing if the package requested was included in the repos (or rejected) and on what repos (antiX release) it was included.

If this initiative is frowned upon, please remove this post.

        CMST (version 2020.11.01+git+9c5e750)
I got asked to see if I could package the latest cmst (connman interface used in antiX) package, and after some effort, I was finally able to build it following the correct Debian guidelines (not touching the source, adding all the patches in a separate file, changing rule instructions, etc.).

        – Link to packages for testing: https://gitlab.com/nXecure/cmst-antix/-/tree/main/package
        – Installation instructions:
        1. Download the correct .deb file for your architecture (amd64 for 64 bits, i386 for 32 bits).
        2. Write in terminal (without executing):
        sudo apt install
        3. Add a space after install, and drag and drop the downloaded .deb file from the file manager to the terminal. It will paste the path to the downloaded package.
        4. Run the command in the terminal by pressing the Enter key.

        Testing environment:
        – antiX 21 (beta), 32 and 64 bits
        – antiX 19 (should also work here), 32 and 64 bits

        – Testing instructions:
        Try using cmst:
        A. Connect or disconnect from wireless access points.
        B. Disconnect and remove an access point and reboot. See if you can then connect anew using the cmst tool.
        C. Enable and disable network interfaces (wifi, ethernet, etc.) an see if they work out of the box again.
        D. See if it launches in your language (current languages are limited, and in my opinion badly configured, as they are limited to a unique locale region and not a language group).
        E. Try to use it normally or with things you haven’t used before.

        Testing standalone:
        cmst -d
        Adding it to startup
        cmst &
        and reboot.

Note: This build includes many improvements, but the biggest one (for me) is compatibility with connman 1.38 (which includes iwd support and support for separate iptables and nftables). As Debian/antiX only brings version 1.36 for now, there may be incompatibilities. Hopefully not, but if there is, I will see if I can build connman 1.39 (latest is 1.40, but I previously built a 1.39 in the past) OR try migrating the translations to the older cmst version in Debian.

          @ Xecure:
I was trying to install the new CMST and I am getting:
          sudo apt install /home/demo/Downloads/cmst_2020.11.01+git+9c5e750-1_contribs1_amd64.deb

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
          #2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

          [sudo] password for demo:

          E: Invalid archive signature
          E: Internal error, could not locate member control.tar{.zst,.lz4,.gz,.xz,.bz2,.lzma,}
E: Could not read meta data from /home/demo/Downloads/cmst_2020.11.01+git+9c5e750-1_cont ribs1_amd64.deb
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
          demo@antix1:~

          I will re-do this on a different 21 B2 laptop, in case my environment is a problem…
          Thanks and Regards.

          Update:
On the other test laptop with Runit 21 B2 I am getting the same issue trying to install this new CMST.
I do not know what is causing install problem but seems the same error as when trying to install the Locale deb.

Thank you very much, Xecure for this work.

The first test I sent you by private message, as the forum was blocking my post from being sent. It was on a USB device running live with normal mode and no persistence of antiX 19.4 full 64 bits with cable connection.

The second test: in a hard disk installation, antiX 19.2 full 64-bit updated today (update and upgrade).

I performed the installation as per your instructions, after restarting the computer the new GUI started to be displayed. The wireless connection continues to work normally.

            Grato.

Thanks for trying, @olsztyn. My guess is that it is not downloading properly from gitlab (could be related to instability in their connection). I will change the instructions and see if I can provide an alternative download link. I will be back once I figure something out.

EDIT: I gave up fighting with gitlab. Here an alternative link to download from google drive

The new one, from Google Drive installed with no issues.
                Thank you!

                Update:
Preliminary testing – no issues found. Appears to work fine. Disconnected from access point, connected to another access point then connected back to the original. Each time tested access to internet. No problem. Possibly appears to connect quicker but it it could be just my expectation.
I am replacing the old CMST with the new one permanently in antiX.
Thanks Xecure. CMST is an important one to enhance… Will look for this new one in repository. Hopefully will be there soon…

                  @ Xecure:
                  Update on CMST 2021:
I have permanently replaced the old 2019 CMST with the new 2021 CMST on my antiX 21 and tested on two machines with different WiFi interfaces. No issues noticed.
                  – Starts and connects correctly on boot.
                  – Switching connection to different access points with 2.4 and 5Ghz speeds – no problems noticed.
                  – Appears stable

Looks to me this CMST 2021 should be the one to use on antiX 21.

Thanks for making this new CMST available.

                    Thanks for the feedback.
I will try to see if I can patch it to use the translations instead of language-region-code locked (like pt_BR only and no pt fallback, or fr_FR but no french option for fr_BE) to use the general language code for all language families.

Yesterday the cmst’s git accepted a merge request with improved translations, so maybe they build a new release some time soon (their latest official release was 2020.11.01). I am thinking of building on the last merge request as if it was an official release or wait a bit more.

I will still experiment with “generalizing” the translation files, to see if it works.

As always, very good idea: the network manager (and the file manager) are, in my opinion essential programs to be localized… In many languages zzzfm is already translated, only the network manager was missing- I found the git for cmts with the localization files, but didn’t bookmark it and never fount it again, until now, in this thread…

                      My test results:
I installed the deb file, 64 bits version in my antiX 19.X 64bits installed system- it works great, not bugs at all, but the UI is only in english, not it pt, even after rebooting- I opened the .deb file and was not able to find any localization files… Is it me?

                      Very nice project!

                      P.

                        CMST (version 2021.10.17-1)
                        Changes:
                        – Updated translations from upstream.
                        – Removed “region lock” (translations that only worked for fr_FR, for example, now also work for fr_BE or any variants of the French language). This makes pt_PT use pt_BR translations, even if they aren’t region specific, they are still better than untranslated.

                        Download:
                        – From gitlab
                        – From Google drive (in case gitlab doesn’t work).

                          Hi @Xecure,

I installed this new version CMST (version 2021.10.17-1) i386.deb file on antix21-b2-sysvinit-32-bit system. Works good. I was able to connect and disconnect without any issue. I seem to see more available networks than before.

                          Thanks.

This makes pt_PT use pt_BR translations, even if they aren’t region specific, they are still better than untranslated.

When the testing phase is over, we will be able to create the translations that do not exist and complete the translations that are unfinished, as is the case with pt-BR and other languages.

                            – – – – –

Quando a fase de testes acabarem, poderemos criar as traduções que não existem e concluir as traduções que estão inacabadas, como é o caso do pt-BR e de outros idiomas.

@Xecure: I tested this latest version- I also got the feeling that it connects to my wifi network a bit faster, like someone posted before. This latest version has a pretty good pt localization (not perfect, but perfectly usable by someone that does not know English).
If no unexpected bug pops up, I hope this version gets included in antiX 21! It’s getting harder and harder to find any essential antiX app that is not localized 🙂

                                pmount (version 0.9.23-10)
pmount is a terminal tool used for mounting and unmounting drives without root permissions. It is used by various antiX tools (antix-goodies, mountbox-antix)

Changes: Added a patch that includes the use a of a new -D option that unmounts the whole external device (all its mount points), spins down the rotational device and completely removes it for safe removal, all without root/sudo permissions. Example:
                                pmount -D /dev/sdb2
