“I often think of/about the gexec program.”

In the “unreleased” version of gexec we’ve been using locally throughout the past year, gexec now logs to file the same details it presents in the auth popup. It logs to file prior to passing to shell or calling sudo. It logs to a separate file for each user, a logfile pathed within their home directory. When a wild-n-crazy buggy program locks/crashes a user’s machine, they are able to (and are coached to) investigate by checking the last-captured log entry. The log is also useful as an additional “history” reference, separate from the bash history file. Hmmm, what was the looooong working commandstring you finally hammered out, or that sketchy commandstring you pasted to gexec runbox instead of directly/dangerously pasting to terminal? If you forgot to write it down, or can’t find it in your (non-login-shell terminal emulator sessions) bash or zsh history file… I coach them to skim the logfile or to grep keywords which would have been present in the forgotten commandstring.
