      Hello all,
I am not new to Linux, though am not a regular user. I mostly use MS Windows these days due to my corporate environment/role to make my worklife easier.

My *nix experience is mostly based on Solaris, but it’s been many years since I’ve been a Solaris admin and Instructor. I’ve dabbled with various distros and have recently installed antiX(21) on a virtual machine to re-acquaint myself with the many things I have forgotten and I definitely feel like a noob as I get acquainted with this forum and all the resources here.

I have so many questions at the moment, but will limit this post to two related to the above topic:
      1. What is the most appropriate forum to ask questions about peripheral devices? I don’t actually see a general topic area about this.
      2. My specific issue is although the mouse seems to function perfectly for interacting with the system, it has a scroll wheel that does not function <– this is the immediate problem I am trying to solve.

I’m running an up-to-date version of 21 (Yorum?). The mouse functions perfectly well for pointing and clicking and, by default, the wheel acting as third button ‘pastes’ just fine when I press it (instead of scrolling).

The Mouse options in Control Center don’t seem to offer the appropriate config parameters and the mouse OEM (Logitech) doesn’t support Linux drivers for the specific mouse model. I’m wondering if there is a driver package out there I might need to apt get install and how to best seek it out.

Some deets (let me know if I should provide anything else):

Mouse is Logitech MX Vertical mouse
      https://www.logitech.com/en-us/products/mice/mx-vertical-ergonomic-mouse.html

      antiX Linux version 4.9.-279-antix.1-amd64-smp

      Window Manager (currently)
      ROX-IceWM 2.9.9

I’ve tried searching the forum using generic search terms like ‘peripheral’ but it’s too broad of a search term to be effective. ‘mouse’ only returns a single hit that is not relevant to peripherals.

I feel like I should be able to figure this out, but I’m stymied.

      Thanks in advance.

        Hi vpic,
probably nothing much about rodents (mice) in the forum as they generaly just work, even obscure ones with many
functions. I know as the only option I miss on mine (Tecknet gaming mouse) is it serving coffee.

Probably the model you gave is as unknown to others here as it is to me. anyway please take a look at

        https://askubuntu.com/questions/1122259/logitech-mouse-mx-vertical-ubuntu-18-software

Buntu is based on debian sid so many of the information snippets in their forums work for antiX, and most any
other debian based distro. Reason for searching buntu forums is huge userbase means the chances of users having
        less usual hardware are higher.

Also found Solaar which is also reputed to handle logi vertical mouse settings.

Thank you, ModdIt. I’ve installed Solaar successfully, but it seems not to be picking up the device…which now that I think it through makes sense since the system is a VM and the mouse is only seen as a USB device, not something specifically ‘Logitech’.

The track pad works fine and I can scroll with that so I think workaround found. Thanks for the links!

Maybe boot it from the USB directly just to see if the issue is only a problem when running under VM?

I don’t use a mouse (on a laptop here), so can’t really recreate the issue.

              Hello vpic.

Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum.

I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything, if your native language is not English, please translate my original Brazilian Portuguese text directly into your language with the help of internet translators.

Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
              How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.

When I first started using antiX, I read the tutorials that PPC created, these readings saved me a lot of time and I think it saves time for any new antiX user. Your time will not be wasted with these readings, everything will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You won’t waste your time searching the internet or even creating new topics, on the contrary, you will gain a lot of time with these readings.

I recommend you try out desktops that have “zzz” in their name. I usually use zzz-IceWM or zzz-JWM or zzz-Fluxbox (each of these desktops has its own characteristics and consumes more or less resources), zzzFM will be the default file manager for your desktop, it it is very similar to the other file managers of other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access other antiX workspaces, click on Menu, Desktop, Other Desktops and click on the workspace name, instantly the workspace will be loaded.

Whenever you need to ask for help or technical support in this forum, please explain in detail what is happening, don’t mince words, be thorough when writing, tell your computer characteristics such as make and model. If possible, post the result of the command $ inxi -Fxz from the terminal, copy and paste here in the message of the topic that you are going to create in this forum.

When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify me of follow-up replies via email”, by checking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are replies from topic in question.

After antiX starts, have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting? Some USB controls only work after disconnecting and reconnecting and applying the $ lsusb command.

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
              How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.

Like BobC already mentioned, does it work in the live-session? You could also try another kernel on the live-stick.
If it is the antiX-full version the 5.xxx kernel is installed by default as modern add-on kernel.

Hi all the OP told us in his last post, sadly not the first one.

the system is a VM and the mouse is only seen as a USB device,
                  not something specifically ‘Logitech’.

His setup and logitech device is pretty special.

He also so said he is happy with his workaround Using a Trackpad.

So really not much point in further posts.

If I remember correctly; in the virtualbox settings you will need to share/pass through the usb device to the guest os. Otherwise it will be translated by virtualbox from the host os to a generic pointer device in the guest os.
