Forum › Forums › Official Releases › antiX-21/22 “Grup Yorum” › “Ping” command no longer working on AntiX 22
As title says, now one gets this error:
ping: socket: Operation not permitted
Had to do long google search and also comparisons with previous 21 release, and finally found this as solution:
setcap cap_net_raw+ep /usr/bin/ping
getcap /usr/bin/ping # To confirm
With this ping is configured just like how it was on AntiX 21. Out of the box, getcap command shows no output at all, meaning now it has no “capacities” at all and thus the error.
What happened here? Why did you remove ping’s permissions to be run as normal user?
Also an additional “complain”: now connman comes only in English; no change of language when selecting different locales/language to boot…
Thanks.
I guess the ping issue is with Base ISO; tried Full one (with Modern kernel) and it doesn’t have it. I haven’t tried Core and Net ISOs though…
But the Connman issue is the same.
The issue is that recently ping has to run with sudo or when logged in as root.
If you look at the execution mask, it ought to be able to run as an ordinary user.
If you run the recomended commands as root or sudo, after that you can do a ping as an ordinary user, which until recently was always the case; those commands fix the problem.

Dear ctcx,
Concerning connman, I invite you to open the following thread;
https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/connman-system-tray-translated-for-whom/
Please type the command line “locale” in a terminal and put the result in your request. This will help to send a new “cmst” file in your language.
Best regards,
Wallon
