I checked my DVD drive with cdparanoia and it should be capable to play audio CDs. Do I need some of the gvfs packages to get the drive playing audio CDs ?

no you should just be able to open in one of the media players directly. audio cd’s don’t really mount.

            Hi delix02,
I’m on antix-17.1-64 bit stretch and had no errors using xmms program for audio cds.
It opens them from the /media/cdrom directory.

I just right click in xmms clicked on play location from the menu…type in “/media/cdrom” in
there and then it started to play song 1.
