I am wanting to play music CDs on my laptop, but they won’t play with the default programs on antiX. I get and error below:
udevil: /dev/sr0 is known to mount – running mount as current user
udevil: warning 45: options ignored for device in fstab (or specify mount point)
      mount: /dev/sr0: can’t read superblock

Is it possible to get music CDs to play? Do I need additional software?

Hmmm. Just wondering what is in

        cat /etc/fstab

for right now. Is your system current and up to date?

          Hi greyowl,

I as root had to create the
          /media/cdrom
directory and give the permissions as shown then xmms was
able to find and load the audio cd.

Okay, looks like you just need to manually mount the drive

or you can setup automount rules via Control Center

                  Hi skidoo,

the programs (xmms) that come with antiX look for audio in the /media/cdrom folder by default
as shown in the fstab output
                  /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom iso9660 noauto,exec,users,ro 0 0
and simply creating the folder as shown above fixes all of the media
players. vlc is not on the default install iso.
also for newer pcs I had to change the preferences and alsamixer
settings to generic audio instead of hdmi to get sound.
Also thx for pointing out users can have automount/play enabled.

I haven’t been able to get the auto launch to work. I checked “auto launch”. Do I need to put something in the “Audio Disk Command” box?

                            you could try
                            %d = /media/sr0
                            or
                            %f = /dev/sr0
as listed under the automount box and see if that helps.
                            I don’t use automount so.
I’m not sure if you neen the name/command of the media player
                            on the line with it.

I tried typing the commands as instructed, but after clicking “Apply”, all that was left was either %d or %f. It erased the rest of the command. And, the auto launch didn’t work.

just tried and you need xmms in front
                                xmms %d /media/sr0
then it will when you open then close the disk or
                                put a new one in.
                                I didn’t need the = sign
                                but had to use the
%d and the /media listing from fstab to get playback

just to clarify my auto disk command box looks
like this but I still had to hit he play button
                                  and open the directory.
ie. it autoopens the player but doesn’t autoload the files
                                  and start playing.
