I’m moving a few conversations into this thread from a previous conversation about Cookies; I was guilty of changing the topic, so now I am moving that portion of the conversation here.

I’m not suggesting that I am an enthusiastic follower of the ridiculous comments that Trump often makes. He’s the kind of person who writes or speaks out before considering the ramifications and consequences of his words.

Nevertheless to me free speech allows for each person to speak their own opinion and also endure criticism from others who express their own opinion.

I’ve stated a few of my own, so I have to be willing to take rebuttal comments.

In this community we do have guidelines and those are that we may express ourselves as long as we are respectful in our thoughts and comments. In opinion sections we can make comments and statements and stay within the topic.

In technical sections political discussion is not on topic.

Cookies are technical information and government regulations of them is questionable.

I may have to move my own comments elsewhere lest they introduce another topic.

Moved from the German/EU Cookie discussion

I don’t have any problems with limiting organized collection of information but I do have concerns about preventing opinions to be expressed. As soon as one opinion is cut off someone else will want to shut down someone else.

We’re going through this in the US. Trump wrote something on Twitter that Twitter removed.

Now Trump appears to be firing back by creating laws against social media companies.

Large and super rich companies such as Facebook and Twitter, along with Google etc. have come to be a part of propaganda machine right along TV companies and want to control the minds of people and their political views, highlighting some views and suppressing others. Most media is an arm of deep state representing political agenda of corrupt politicians in the pockets of those who are in control – large companies and super rich individuals such as Soros, Bill Gates, and others…
Some regulation to reduce the censorship power of these companies and super rich individuals behind them is a (little) step forward, but care must be taken to not restrict freedoms of the individual.

I agree. Sometimes, people are banned from platforms, or their media removed, if it’s not politically correct. Why not allow people to judge for themselves? Isn’t that what freedom is about? I’m guessing some powerful people don’t like freedom, because they can buy whatever they want for themselves, including liberty.

They do not like the concept of freedom for individual citizens because they want to control them, in fact reducing the meaning of citizenship to work force. For these super rich people what drives them is not desire of more money for more wealth but for the power of control that goes with that money. Huge amounts of money brings them capability of controlling people, agencies within governments and even economies using corruption and eliminating those who stand in their way or are inconvenient witnesses. Having control of mass media such eliminations are published as suicides or otherwise explained so as to cover the tracks and keep people brainwashed.
Even Presidents who do not play in the hand of this powerful dark force (unlike predecessors) but try hard (if you overlook some slips of tongue blown out of proportion by hostile media) and stand for working people and small businesses, need to be extra careful… Reality of our times…
