In antiX 23, last night I found out that I was unable to play freeciv (available in the repos, an open source version of the original Civilization game).
Using the search engines I found the unlikely cause of error message I got to be the fact that /etc/hosts
had 2 lines stating “127.0.0.1 localhost”, the very first line and one far, far below that, saying “127.0.0.1 localhost #IPv4 localhost”
Deleting one of these lines and saving the change intantly solves the problem.
So, probably, there could be some other problems related to having that repetition on the hosts file. Shouldn’t that be fixed? Or is there a reason for the repetition of that particular line? (i.e. is it a feature or a bug?)
P.
Must be a bug.
I saw the double entry in my /etc/hosts file too, so I ran advert-block again.
This time there was only 1 entry for localhost.
Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.
