::If you are talking about Connman, you need to edit /etc/connman/main.conf as root, and change the preferred option to:
[General] PreferredTechnologies=ethernet,wifianswer based on:

::Thanks for your reply.
No I don’t use connman in fact I uninstalled it had trouble with wifi working. I have always used ceni no interest in connman.
But I found that the network connection on the laptop itself is no working properly yet the network connection on the docking station is working fine.
My above statement already works as it should.

I’ve read this ten times and I still don’t understand the question.
Are you asking if you can have an ethernet connection as first choice when on a wired LAN network and physically wired to that LAN? But if not physically wired to a LAN then be able to automatically select a WiFi interface to connect to a wireless access point? And then make sure that when you go back to the wired connection that the ethernet connection is first choice?

::It’s been a few years now since I’ve been able to run both wired and wireless, but as I recall the last time I had both, a properly configured system will choose wired if available, then wireless. I’m not sure if that is because at the time my fastest option was the wired option, or if that is the natural order of precedence, but I’ll state, based on the most recent time I had BOTH is that if a wired service is available and you have that interface enabled, it will be selected.
Some modern interfaces now allow you to turn on or off one of 2-3 different options; I think that’s what’s available now with Connman, but since we’ve had Connman available I’ve only had a wifi connection; Connman can configure Ethernet, wifi, or Bluetooth if I remember correctly.
Anyone with superior knowledge is welcome to weigh in on this; please cite any specific information and/or literature if possible to provide us with the proper means of “improving our education”. Thanks!

(Sorry I was being lazy by stating it as Lan connection. (I should have said ethernet connection)
@ masinick
Thanks for your input I just don’t have time at the moment but on the weekend I will look into this , I have only used ceni in the past and connman gave me troubles with my wifi.

::Back a few years ago I used Ceni as my network manager on a couple of different distros. If I had an Ethernet connection, once setup, I could login any time and Ceni would pick up the Ethernet connection. If I connected wireless it was much more likely to have to explicitly select the desired connection, but if I plugged back in the connection was automatically made.
