      Hi,

I’m having a difficulty to setup Brother HL2040 printer on Antix 17 computer. I did follow the instructions on the Brother.com website (see the link below). Being a newbie, I didn’t know what was the exact command type required at point 5(3) to restart the print system.

      http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadhowto.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hl2040_all&os=128&dlid=dlf005841_000&flang=4&type3=559

However, I did reboot my machine and tried to test printer with available two drivers but both didn’t work (see the screenshot attached). Actually, nothing happened on the printer side and no error message received.

Please advise if I’m missing anything in the installation process. Thank you.

I think the installation went well.
If you go to control-centre under hardware , set up printer.
        you should see HL 2040.
look into properties by right click
        The uri should be usb:/dev/usb/lp0
the model should be Brother HL2040 for CUPS
if not you have to change
Look also under guidelines, if it is activated and if it is allowed for all users to print.

Thank you for your reply. It looks like all set correct as per your suggestions but still not working. Also tested the printing via:
Control Center > Hardaware > Setup a Printer > HL2040 Properties > Print Test Page

Are there any tools I can test the process and track where the problem is?

Did you install both, the LPR and the cups-wrapper? You should, I’m asking bc your link only shows the LPR.

No, I didn’t but just did it. It works fine now. Thank you for your prompt help. By the way, I’m learning a lot 🙂

Glad to hear you feel you are learning. That is one of our aims as a distro – to help users actually lean about what it is they are using.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.
