Hello,
Installed cups and system-config-printer.
Added Canon printer using generic driver (recommended).
Print test page – Shows printing of page with nothing left in queue.
No page printed
When using Mx Linux, I was able to print.
Any thoughts?

::You might just need to reboot and try again.

You might just need to reboot and try again.
Thanks, but no print after normal reinstall of apps, reboot, and test.

::These are the packages I install on antiX-base systems to get my printers running, may help you.
cups cups-filters system-config-printer system-config-printer-udev printer-driver-gutenprintJune 10, 2020 at 3:30 am #37172MemberPPC
::Also, if all else fails, try this: open the printer’s properties and check if it’s not locked or blocled for any reason (happens to me, from time to time on my HP printer and that’s how I solve it).
Cannon offers, on their home page a Linux driver, for your kind of printer (it a 100 Mb package)- you can try that, but, if I were you I would do that on a live system first, just to check if installing the driver does not mess your system up…P.

::Hi Marco, generic driver sounds somewhat unusual for a canon printer.
if you still have the possibility to print from MX, pls check which PPD is in use.
http://localhost:631/printers/ should bring you to the right page in CUPS. Several times we have been
able to fix canon issues that were caused by wrong PPD (Driver/printer process descriptor) file being
suggested by the system.In one case we had to extract a driver from the windoze driver package and add it to CUPS.
In your case if you have working setup the PPD should be in MX /etc/cups/ppd.
You may find more useful information in the setup files found in the directory.- This reply was modified 2 years, 11 months ago by ModdIt.

::@Moddit
I have the working MXLinux system available for trouble shooting.
Please tell me what you need to know to continue with “printer won’t print”.
Thank you

::MX /etc/cups/ppd
Canon_MF230.ppd
If MXLinux can find it, then I’m sure we can make it work.

::Hi, sorry for the delay: here are the links to the driver my google search came up with:
Note: it’s says it’s for “mf232w” not “mf232”
and
https://en.printerdriver.org/canon-mf230-driver/
I did not test any of this (I have no canon printer) and the second link does not look official, so beware of it…
If you want to test any of this, try it on a virtual system or running antiX live, to be on the safe side.P.
