Happy to report that i found that pulse audio was NOT installed. Making it available completely solved the audio problem in both Firefox and Sea Monkey. You can now label this post as solved. Thanks for the provided help.

        Hello Xecure:

I have upgraded my OS to antiX-21_x64-full and both the flickering and the sudden screen blanking reappeared. I then again tried your suggestion and it failed to work. Moreover, with most applications it will freeze the screen (without blanking it) and nothing except a forced poweroff with the on/off key will allow a restart. To remove the offending instructions I had to use RoxTerm as any other applications I tried (zzzFM, Lxterminal) just froze the screen.

I wonder if this is a software or a hardware problem. Please, let me know if you need any additional information to provide some help. Thanks

Failed to report that screen blanking also occurred while displaying a .pdf document and when working with a CAD drawing in BricsCAD. The latter is a program I have frequently used for some 30 years (I am a Land Surveyor, now retired). Of course, I have used several versions of BricsCAD for Linux along all those years!

Try the older (4.9) kernel on antiX-21

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

              Hello anticapitalista:
Thanks for your reply. I searched the forum for guidance on how to downgrade the kernel. Found that I should use Package Manager to do so. However, I found that there are two kernels installed and several to choose from. I’m a bit lost here on what should I do. Can you help please?

I have attached a screen capture of the present situation.

No need to permanently downgrade the kernel. When the Grub menu appears choose the 2nd entry: ‘Advanced options for Antix21 Grup Yorum’. You then get the choice to boot with the 5.10 or the 4.9 kernel.

                  Hi Hector_A,

If you are still having problems, you might try adding the xserver-xorg-legacy, which unfroze my xsession after an update to xserver. I realize this is unlikely to help because you have a fairly recent, powerful system. However…

So far Kernel 4.9 appears to have solved the screen blanking problem completely. Occasionally, there is some slight flickering but I can live with that.

I was fed up with choosing the Kernel each time I logged in, so I searched the Forum and found how to delete Kernel 5.10. Unfortunately, sound was lost both in Firefox and Vivaldi. Checked that apulse was installed (it was) and proceeded to reinstall it. Still no sound. It look as if the unused kernel removal took away something.

                    Any suggestions? Thanks
