      Hello, new to antix,
I’m having problems with its default filemanager , when I click on it to see my files it shows up like this which is frustrating :

      Screenshot

I also want to change the default file manager to anything other than this but I tried but couldn’t.
Also I can’t see my files on other hard drives including windows 7 and solydx distro.

They are mounted an accessible but I can’t use the default file manager to see them.

      Any help appreciated.

Hello! I can’t see your screenshot. Please could you upload a image on other image hosting site?

Also I can’t see my files on other hard drives including windows 7 and solydx distro.

        Do you checked? media/user/
There could be your HDD files.

I also want to change the default file manager to anything other than this but I tried but couldn’t.

You could download Peazip file manager.
Peazip interface looks like Windows Explorer.

        wget https://github.com/peazip/PeaZip/releases/download/7.4.1/peazip_7.4.1.LINUX.x86_64.GTK2.deb

        Then
        sudo dpkg -i peazip_7.4.1.LINUX.x86_64.GTK2.deb
After you installed, write “peazip” without quotes in terminal.

Sorry I missed your original post. antiX full already comes with a “regular” looking File Manager- SpaceFM – see instructions on Step 2 of the initial post over at https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/short-essential-how-to-list-for-the-complete-linux-newbie/

(you should probably read through all of that thread, if you are newbie, to get a grip on how to do the most usual tasks on antiX)

See if you can access your drives with SpaceFM, if not, please post your system info, so folks here have more data to try to help you…

          P.

            I can’t see your screenshot.

Glad someone else mentioned it. I can’t see it either.
(not a unique occurrence; imgur.com images typically never display for me)

I can see that image just fine (I just rececked that): is a screen grab of a small Rox window, (automaticaly) resized to just fit around the default folders on “Home”…

view-source’d the imgur page and found this URL, which does display an image when I access it directly

                .

when I click on it to see my files it shows up like this

If your desktop session is “rox + icewm”
and you right-click the “File Manager” desktop icon,
choose “Options” and you can specify DetailsView as the default mode rather than IconView.
The same (flyout menu entry “Options”) is accessible if a rox window is already open and you right-click an empty area within the window.

                  which is frustrating

I agree. Also, while in Options I recommend UNchecking “single-click opens items and eats your kittens”

also want to change the default file manager to anything other than this

First, at the login screen, you probably ought to choose something other than any of the “rox +” sessions.
                  Try “space + icewm”

                  Next, visit the ControlCenter:
                  .

Also I can’t see my files on other hard drives including windows 7 and solydx distro.
They are mounted and accessible but I can’t use the default file manager to see them.

Specific to the rox-filer file manager, the mounted drives would be presented under the /media directory
                  .

ROX filemanager takes some getting used to. I always switch the desktop to “space-icewm” and that changes to a more familiar filemanager, SpaceFM.
