I believe I am using the 32bit version antix-21 and it is working very well for my 15 years old netbook.
However, I am having issue with the VGA output on my netbook.
The boot up screen was fine output to the external monitor via VGA connection. But it will change to flickering screen as soon as it goes into reading from the boot up sequence screen (black & white).I cannot find any display configuration from the Antix dropdown menu.
Can anyone give me a suggestion?

::hi larry*
in control center and menu settings you have arandr, a monitor settings tool.
Have you already tried to make changes to frequency setting in the internal monitor menu ?March 12, 2022 at 4:20 am #78939MemberLarry123
::Yes, arandr works.
Even though, the external monitor will have to be setup to same low resolution as the netbook.March 12, 2022 at 9:23 am #78943MemberRobin
::What type of video card do you have installed? Which driver type (proprietary or free)? In case you can’t set different frequencies for internal and external display device this behaviour can possibly driver dependent. All I know is: Using original proprietary nvidia driver instead of free nouveau driver on my notebook (on antiX 19, had not sufficient time to switch to antiX 21 by now and try to apply the very procedure on it) stopped all graphics and resume-after-suspend problems immediately, moreover allowing even hq videos to run flawlesly on a 32bit single core cpu with low cpu usage. So this very well might be a driver specific problem.
But there exist also graphics cards which can’t handle different frequencies and resolutions on their different outputs. So the solution of your problem depends of many parameters.You should post the output from antiX control center → hardware → PC information → full info (inxi) so others might figure what in your case the true reason and the solution is.
btw, for tft screens 60hz should be fine and flicker free always (for general tasks). This was different in times of tube monitors, where higher frequencies above at least 75hz were needed to see a flicker free screen. Modern tft instead produce poor results when not set to their native resolution.
So what you see here is possibly the result of switching the external monitor to a value it can’t handle natively. Please look up first which resolution and frequency your external tft has natively.Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

If I recall correctly, when I connected my netbook to a monitor, I had to use arandr to disable my netbook screen, or else the external monitor would be locked to the same resolution. so, try disabling the netbook display and see if then you have more resolutions available to the external monitor…
If you do that, please remember to turn your internal display back on before unplugging the external monitor…
