      Hello everyone!

I have just installed Antix for the first time on my computer (32 bit). I have set it for testing (rather than stable updates) It worked perfectly until I updated the second or third time. The icons in the menu changed and none of the buttons for turning off, logging off, suspending, etc now work. I was able to do a work around by creating desktop launchers for the terminal shutdown, etc commands. I would love to get the menu functions to work again.

The only think I can think I possibly did wrong in the upgrade was accidental…. When it came to the grub upgrade, I checked the root partition box, but accidentally omitted the sub-folder (?) option (intended under the root partition). Could this have caused my problem… If so, how do I fix it?

Sorry to be a bother, but as an Antix “newbie,” I don’t know the “ins and outs”

        Hi, Herndon.

I have set it for testing (rather than stable updates)

If you mean you changed the debian.list and antix.list sources to testing, change them to bullseye instead (though it should be the same, but just in case). And dist-upgrade again.

The icons in the menu changed and none of the buttons for turning off, logging off, suspending, etc now work.

Is the logout menu entry the one that doesn’t work or the “Exit Session” window buttons that don’t work?
If I am not mistaken, recently the desktop-session-antix has been divided into different and independent packages, so that it isn’t as monolithic.
Make sure you have desktop-session-antix, desktop-menu-antix and desktop-defaults-antix, and pm-utils (that manages shutdown, suspend, logout commands).

Please also show the output from terminal
          inxi -r
so we can see if the sources for the update are right.

Thank you so much for responding! Here is the result of inxi -r. Yes, I changed the debian.list and antix.list to testing. Before I installed Antix, I registered on the forum and asked if it were possible to make Antix into a release that I wouldn’t have to re-install every 5 years (e.g. semi-rolling). I THOUGHT I was told to switch the sources to testing and remove any reference to the release name (Buster, Bullseye, etc) If I remember, Anticapitalista posted, which I thought was super cool. Thanks again for all the help!!!

When I press the “Logout Bar” on the main menu, nothing happens… the interface does not appear on my screen. When I press the logout “arrow” (part of the main logout bar), a submenu appears with Logout, Lock Workstation, and Sleep mode. When I press logout, nothing happens except the logout “greys out” and the cancel logout becomes avaialble. The sleep mode does nothing. I have not tried “lock workstation” Everything else in the main menu seems to work fine.

Thanks. This is a bit more concrete.
If you run this in terminal what do you see?
                  desktop-session-exit
If it says “command not found”, then it may need to be reinstalled.
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --reinstall desktop-session-antix
If it does launch, see if clicking any of the buttons spits out an error.

Thanks Xecure! I have searched for desktop-session-antix, desktop-menu-antix and desktop-defaults-antix, and pm-utils in Synaptic. It shows “desktop-session-antix” and “pm-utils” as installed, but does not even give an option to install “desktop-menu-antix” or “desktop-defaults-antix” (searching for them shows no packages). If I need these two packages, how do I install them?

Based on how I have it set up on my bullseye system, it shows them as dependencies for desktop-session-antix.

                      $ apt depends desktop-session-antix
                      desktop-session-antix
                        Depends: desktop-menu-antix
                        Depends: desktop-defaults-antix
                        Breaks: desktop-session-antix (<< 2.0.0)
                        Recommends: slim
                        Replaces: desktop-session-antix (<< 2.0.0)

And I see that for both testing and bullseye (as expected, as they are right now the same), both show version 2.0.1 package in the repos as latest:

                      $ apt policy desktop-session-antix
                      desktop-session-antix:
                        Installed: 2.0.1
                        Candidate: 2.0.1

See what package version you have installed with
                      apt policy desktop-session-antix

I just ran “sudo apt update && sudo apt install –reinstall desktop-session-antix” It acted like it was retrieving and installing it…. but after it finished there was no change…

Ok. Python seems to be missing (or an older version is installed)
                          What does
apt list --installed | grep python
                          show?
