Now we know why you didn’t get the updates. There was an error with the signature of the repos.

I did what you said…. no more error messages. I am waiting for the upgrade to finish installing

At the end of the update/upgrade, I still had some errors

I am running again… the menu power off/sleep still doesn’t work, but it said 97 packages would be upgraded

That is what usually happens when you upgrade from one Debian release to the next.
                Try
                sudo apt-get -f upgrade
To see if it can fix some packages. Some will need t be autoremoved, but you can do that once you cannot go any farther upgrading/fixing packages.
Once desktop-session-antix is version 2.0.1, try the menu again. If it still doesn’t work, install
                sudo apt install python3-xdg
That should bring necessary python3 packages to get desltop-session-exit to work.

God news it is fixed! The risk of encountering some problems when upgrading to testing is always there (in my experience), but overcoming it is great.
If you can edit your first post (EDIT text in the top left of the first post), you should also be able to edit the title. (no longer needed)

Well done following all the many tests and instructions provided. A lot of going around blindly until we found the source of the issue, and you didn’t give up. Now you should be OK for at least a few years in testing.

Let us know if you see anything else pop up that isn’t working as expected.
