Hello everyone!
I have been trying to click on Synaptic, nothing comes up. When I try to run Synaptic from a terminal, this error message appears:
Herndon@Hern:~
$ synaptic
synaptic: error while loading shared libraries: libicuuc.so.67: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryAny thoughts?

::Yep.
There may be something missing in your system…Try this:
antiX menu > Terminal
try running this command (enter your password if asked to):
sudo apt update && sudo apt install libicu67Edit: I was ninjaed by Bob 🙁

::Lol, well, I don’t think it would work without sudo.
But yes, there could well be something missing, otherwise it should have worked from the menu.

::I tried “sudo synaptic” – exact same error message. I also tried “sudo apt update && sudo apt install libicu67.” The response is attached; I received a lot of updating errors.
Thanks for all of your help!!! I really appreciate it! I am, of course willing to try a different package manager if that would help.

::Ok…. this is getting weirder and weirder. Gdebi doesn’t work either. I can install with apt only. When I attempt “sudo gdebi-gtk” I get the following errors, attached below.
Any thoughts as to what is going on? I would be very grateful!

::I had a problem due to a missing libicu67 package. In my case running Sid (not testing as I assume you are), it was removed automagically when libicu71 was installed via full-upgrade. I noticed this because lxterminal stopped launching.
I manually reinstalled libicu67 and lxterminal once again launched fine. This was two months ago (see my post #82201).
I suspect the issue is the repository you are trying to use to install libicu67 is not being accessed from the message you displayed, because it doesn’t have a release file.
I would try a different repository – the site https://antixlinux.com/mirmon/antix-mirror-status.html, lists the status of repositories (and others might suggest a “good” alternative to the ones you are using.)
Hope that is helpful.

::I have just Googled libicu67 to attempt to manually install it. I am unable to find a 32 bit version, which may explain a lot. I keep the “ol gal” running for sentimental reasons and because it meets most of my needs. Do you know if a 32 bit version is still available?

::yes, a 32-bit i386 debfile is available.
[[[ edit: whoops….. as stevesr0 mentions in a post below, it is only available from debian stable [bookworm] repository, not from debian testing [bookworm] ]]]BTW, your screenshots indicate that your selected debian repository mirror has problems. Choose different mirror.
do not use gdebi. Search. Read. Multiple forum topics explaining gdebi is unreliable, is broken.
Posts in those topics also describe which gdebi replacement is available.- This reply was modified 10 months, 3 weeks ago by iznit.

::OK. Found it… everything works! Thank you so much!!!
And thanks for the advice on gdebi. I wondered why it wasn’t included on the 64 bit version I just downloaded for a “newer” laptop I own.h
Again, thanks so much!!!

::libicu67 debs should appear in antiX testing repos soon.
I also edited the title to make it clear that this issue only refers to those using testing repos.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::Hi anticapitalista,
According to the debian package site bookworm (testing) contains ONLY libicu71, NOT libicu67, but apparently libicu67 is required for Synaptic to launch in testing.
So, the problem in testing is the lack of a package required for synaptic (libicu67)- that is present in BOTH unstable (Sid) and stable (Bullseye).
Question: Is the libicu67 currently included in the antiX testing repo, even tho not present in the debian testing repo (or is the debian package site incorrect) or…?
