The second problem I experienced after installing 4.19 kernel (which bothers me more than the first problem – see my previous message) is that suddenly some new error messages started to pop up during startup.

ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND, While resolving a named reference package element… (message ending with: dspkginit-438)

This does not happen with 4.9 kernel, but does happen also with the 5.10 kernel. Now some would say, just stick to the 4,9 kernel, but I installed the 4.19 kernel for a reason, being that it showed to be able to mitigate more of the vulnerabilities of the Celeron processor than the 4.9 kernel (and also that I read about some very positive experiences with this kernel with old laptops in this forum).
First question I have is: does this error presents a security problem, or otherwise?

I searched the internet about ACPI, learning that it is a system working as a power interface, particularly for laptops with their batteries, and also that the ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth had described it as a security risk (wikipedia). Learning that is was possible to boot with ACPI=off – and that it was suggested in some cases with similar error messages, I tried that and edited the grub file ( GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash acpi=off”) and updated grub. But afterwards I could not start antiX. I then played with the thought to adress the grub file from my linux distro on the separate partition, but since I am not an expert of grub (if this is at all possible), I quickly decided to do a fresh install for the, third or fourth time again..
Second question is: how can I best deal with the ACPI error.

In relation to that I am curious whether it is possible to get along without ACPI in my case, perhaps with some other kernel boot options? (the battery of the old laptop is dead anyway….)

All comments and suggestions, highly appreciated

Some more context to the above question of how I came to this situation:
I am rather new to antiX, used it with much pleasure on my Pentium 4 desktop for a few months now. I recently decided to also try it out on an old laptop with an Intel Celeron processor. I downloaded ‭antiX-21_386-base.iso, checked sums and key, and burned a DVD. So I did a regular install from the DVD iso on the HD, set up ufw firewall afterwards, then connected to internet and started to update and install some applications.

From your initial post you probably won’t like the answer – stick to the 4.9 kernel (pae if you want) and make sure it is the latest.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

@solar: On a few of my systems, I’m lucky and nearly every kernel works; however one recent system won’t (yet) run with antiX because the wireless interface is not recognized. If anticapitalista says to use the (updated) version of the 4.9 kernel, do listen.

That would be the 4.9.0-294-antix kernel; use the right one for your processor type and you’ll be all set.
