Hi, I wanted to learn a little more about building a system myself, so I downloaded the core version, and I tried to install it in VirtualBox.
However, the system hangs when waiting for /dev to be populated. This goes for both the 32 and 64 bit versions. I’m guessing there’s an issue with VirtualBox, but I tried to look around and couldn’t find any solution here. Apologies if it has been posted on the forum before, I’d be happy if someone could find a link to an old forum post, or else if someone knows what the problem could be.

::in web search “virtualbox without x server” you will find is it not outright impossible but is a huge hassle. It would be much better to [[[NOT]]] attempt to use “core” antix version as a vb host.
edit
sorry, misread. OP describes installing core version into vb, not core version as host.- This reply was modified 11 months, 1 week ago by iznit.

::Does the hang occur after installation or running live?

::I just got done experimenting, myself.
With the default settings, it froze up on me too, at that same point. This is what worked for me:
Delete the part of the boot parameter line as below (see screenshot1).
Remove:
splash=v
Then I got it to fully boot to the login prompt.BUT the fonts were HUGE (see screenshot2).
If this happens to you, log in, and type:
console-font-selectThat brings up the nifty program antiX has to… change the console font (see screenshot3).
Now, the highlighted entry 14×8-VGA-Bold, is the one to select. So just hit enter. After a few seconds (on my 15-year-old computer), the screen font is corrected (see screenshot4).
Then press ‘q’ to quit the program, and you are returned to the command prompt (at normal size). So you can then run
cli-installer
or whatever you want. 🙂- This reply was modified 11 months, 1 week ago by christophe.

::So, the solution worked. I was able to start up the cli installer. Running the installer, it became apparent that there is a lot of new stuff I have to learn, though. Thanks for your help!

::When asking for help, please be exact at the point of diffculty.
For example, was it when the hdd partitioner says to write the partition table to disk, type yes/no?
If so, YOU MUST type the whole word YES, or it won’t work.confirmed antiX frugaler, since 2019
