Maybe somebody can help me to figure what is going wrong here:
For the first time I tried to use a graphical subtiteling software. After reading about this kind of software I came to the
conclusion „gaupol“ would fit the needs and is also available in repos active in default antiX 19.3/4.
So I simply installed it. No visible errors happened during instllation process:$ sudo apt-get install gaupol Paketlisten werden gelesen... Fertig Abhängigkeitsbaum wird aufgebaut. Writing Menu: fluxbox Writing Menu: icewm Writing Menu: jwmAfter starting program came up as described in its manuals and seen on screenshots.
But It is not possible to load any video for processing. All items in menu “video” are greyed out, also the entry „load video”
When starting from command line the only output (besides the gui comming up normally, but still with menu entries greyed out as before) is the following:$ gaupol (python3:22402): dbind-WARNING **: 00:23:56.906: Couldn't register with accessibility bus: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. GStreamer found, but textoverlay missing. Try installing gst-plugins-base.Also when feeding a video file directly by using option -v from commandline the file will not get loaded, and everything is greyed out as before.
Searching for gstreamer-plugins-base turned out there is no such package found by apt in recent antiX.
But searching some more there was found:$ apt-cache policy 'gstreamer1.0-plugins-base' gstreamer1.0-plugins-base: Installiert: 1.14.4-2+deb10u1 Installationskandidat: 1.14.4-2+deb10u1 Versionstabelle: *** 1.14.4-2+deb10u1 500 500 http://security.debian.org buster/updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.14.4-2 500 500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian buster/main i386 PackagesObviously this is installed even if gaupol doesn’t seem to take notice of it.
So, does anybody have a clue what is missing here? Since gaupol is reported to work well on debian based systems in general. Does it work for anybody else on antiX?
I have not the faintest idea where to start searching or what to look for. So any help appreciated.

P.S.: seems this menu is untranslated still, but this is no problem for me in the first place. We’ll cover this in translation section, once the program works as expected on antiX

sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-x
then relaunch the gaupol applicationMany thanks, skidoo!
This solved it all at once.
I’d never have reckoned gstreamer itself was missing, since there was written in big plain letters:
GStreamer found, but...
on console output of gaupol.
This program works like a charm now, even on this 20 year old 32 bit single core notebook. Great.
