Hello. I would like to propose that the current base of Antix become replaced with LFS (Linux from scratch), with more lightweight then Debian itself

::antiX is by design systemd-free.
This is possible due to huge effort by @anticapitalista and other, incl. but not limited to collaboration with MX Linux and (indirectly?) Veteran Admins (for init freedom, some of whom started Devuan).1) Are you aware of any way how to translate this work of others in order to enable antiX to remain systemd-free even when rebased to LFS?
Also, there is a lot of custom built-(re-)packages.
2) Do you know of any tool to easily switch from DEB to whatever LFS uses?If not, then it is… to put it mildly… very unlikely to happen.
My guess is that it is not going to happen anyway.October 26, 2023 at 9:26 am #121750MemberPPC
::I was going to just stay quiet, that’s what I usually do when I have nothing positive to say, but in this case, I’ll break that rule:
Over the years I’ve made dozens of proposals to try to improve antiX. Some got accepted, some did not.
But what you are trying with your multiple proposals is creating a new Distro, with a different init system, with a different base, etc. – nothing stops you from doing that and making that available as a downloable iso for other people to use – that’s exactly how most Distros are born. antiX had some distros based in it.I hope that, if you remain in the forum you make useful proposals, about how to improve what we already got, not simply “propose” to build a new “Linux from stratch”, pun intended.
– Did you find a problem/bug with antiX? Please report it, so it can be solved or we can try to help you solve the problem
– Do you know of any way to improve the current configurations antiX uses? Please explain how to do it, so the Dev team tries to apply those ideas
– Can you create a new window manager/ GTK theme or Wallpaper? Do so and propose it to be added to antiX
– Can you create or improve a GUI or script that antiX already has or you think it needs? Do so and make it available here in the forum.
– Do you require some software to be packaged for antiX? Feel free to ask for it here
– Did you create or found any program that you think is a nice addition to antiX or could replace any program it already includes? Suggest it here…Just siting there and saying: I “propose” you should use this base to build your system, use that init, change this iso, etc- are not “real proposals”, it’s just you asking “Hey, build me this Distro, just the way I want it”
anticapitalista and the rest of the dev team and contributors already created antiX for free, keep improving it and adding more and more features to it, and support it via this forum. You can try asking if anticapitalista will build you a new fresh Linux distro, as per your specifications, if you pay him…P.

Your intentions were obvious from your posts. If you really have the technical knowledge so create a Linux Distro almost from zero, I suggest that you start from antiX’s net version (choose either sysv or runit, please don’t ask the devs for any more inits- they will add them when and if they think they should) and work your way up, installing the packages you require, until you get the system just the way you like. Oh!: do back up often, just in case…

::more lightweight then Debian itself
Well, the antiX qualities „lean”, „lightweight” etc. are not practiced for their own sake. antiX keeps a fine tuned balance between lightweight and everyday usability and user-friendliness, convenience, which includes among other the fact you can easily install program packages from a vast standard repository (the debian repo), without diving the user into the trouble of compiling everything from scratch on his own.
When looking at all your additional proposals in other threads concerning the basic concepts of antiX, like init system etc.: To put it in a nutshell you don’t ask for less than a completely new distro, which has not much in common with antiX. So, I second strongly what PPC already has recommended above: please feel free to start this new distro yourself.
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.
