      Hi.
      I had a power out which I suspect damaged the fs on an external hdd:

      demo@antix1:~/Live-usb-storage
      $ sudo fsck -Vr /dev/sdc1
      fsck from util-linux 2.33.1
      demo@antix1:~/Live-usb-storage
      $ echo $?
      0
      demo@antix1:~/Live-usb-storage
      $ ls -lah /media/demo/sdc1-usb-WD_My_Passport_2/
      .
      .
      .
      drwxrwxrwx 1 demo demo 8.0K Dec 5 14:52 LiveUSB-StorageArchive2021_0113
      d?????????? ? ? ? ? ? Live-usb-storageArchive2021_0216
      drwxrwxrwx 1 demo demo 0 Jan 11 10:11 Live-usb-storageAr嚉hive2021_0111
      drwxrwxrwx 1 demo demo 4.0K Mar 11 14:10 Live-usb-storageBackup

      So, fsck exits w/o error, or fixing anything, but I still have corrupted permissions on one folder, and a corrupted name on another folder. Any suggestions?

        Oh, in case you need proof that I am applying fsck to the right mount point,

        demo@antix1:~/Live-usb-storage
        $ lsblk -f
        NAME FSTYPE LABEL UUID FSAVAIL FSUSE% MOUNTPOINT
        loop0 squashfs 0 100% /live/linux
        .
        .
        .
        sdc
        └─sdc1 ntfs 5XXXXXXXXXXXXXXF 807.2G 13% /media/demo/sdc1-usb-WD_My_Passport_2
        sr0

          Basically, a drive needs to be unmounted to be checked, & done by the root operator, or by using sudo.

          Edit: I just noticed that it is an NTFS drive, you will require the right tools for the job – no idea which, as I never use NTFS.

          Linux (& BSD) since 1999
