Why does live-usb-maker always puts the ESP after the MBR main boot partition? Shouldn’t the orthodox order be ESP first?

Hell, even Ventoy also follows this practice of ESP being second!

      Thanks.

This is probably necessary since otherwise the stick wouldn’t be bootable by classic BIOS systems, relying to find the MBR in a specific position of a drive. If you put the ESP in this place, you can only boot it on recent UEFI systems. Just a guess, have not checked this in the manuals and documents.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

its actually because when this was set up, certain non-linux operating system and bios combinations would only detect and mount the first partition found on the device. the simple solution is to put the esp second so that the first partition is always the more useful working partition is detected by most OS’s. it has nothing to do with UEFI or mbr booting. the ESP does not overwrite the mbr. its a different area of the disk.
