There have been some new user questions about the functionality about copy and paste.

If additional discussions are needed, this would be a good place to ask questions or suggest answers or ideas.

It’s OK to talk about different versions of file managers or other applications, as long as it pertains to the use of copying and pasting information, passing it to other applications, and so on, but please keep the primary discussion here about copy and paste.

I will create another topic about usability and still another one about ideas for future releases.

Most distros file managers use highlighting with the mouse, right clicking & choosing ‘copy’, then going to where you want it, right clicking & choosing ‘paste’.

Not sure what else there is to it(?).

        Linux (& BSD) since 1999

Or drag it there. Configurable copy or move logic is good to have.

I should try watching a Rox how to video. I admit that I never figured out how to use it efficiently. Old dogs can be slow at learn new tricks unless there are highly desirable treats in the equation.

Regarding copy & pasting text between applications:

I have noticed that, when copying text from one application to another, that the source file must remain open until the text is copied to the destination.

For example, copying text from a browser window to a text editor: highlight the text and right-click, then and select copy. That browser window must remain open until the paste operation of right-clicking & pasting into the destination text document.

I only point this out, because it may be unexpected behavior to a new user.

Also (a different behavior): in terminal emulator windows, simply highlight a block of text; move the cursor to the document or position you want that text pasted, then middle-click (while the text is still highlighted) to paste it. This is useful when there is no right-click functionality.

Yes, it is different. If you are used to MS Win it is another adjustment.

Here is a video describing the graphical use of the Rox Filer – including “drag and drop functionality”

                  Tip:
antiX 19 is not preconfigured to autostart a “clipboard manager” utility.
(stores a history of clips, adds tray icon to access the list)

The utility “clipit” is preinstalled in antiX 19 Full
(and, for Base edition, available via “sudo apt install clipit”)
To enable its autostart at the beginning of each desktop session, edit ~/.desktop-session/startup
                  and change
                  #clipit&
                  to
                  clipit&
then save the startup file, and logout/login to see the result take effect.

                    Tip:
If virtualbox shared clipboard is “not working”, the problem might be solved by uninstall/reinstalling the preinstalled “guest additions”. This issue sometimes creeps in after having updated the virtualbox version (on just the host system, or just the guest system, resulting in quirky behavior due to mismatched versions).

I have installed antiX from base iso (around 700 MB installation). I have installed later libreoffice, and some ther packages such as cheese. I didn’t install clipit.
When try to execute apt command I got this:

clipit is already the newest version (1.4.4+git20190202-1).
The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required:
                      libexo-1-0
Use ‘sudo apt autoremove’ to remove it.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

So it is already installed in my case at least. Now, regarding the second part, about how to enable autostart, I must admit I didn’t quite understand, because I’m not familiar with tilda sign. So I set this under Control Centre – Session – User Desktop Session.

There I found: # Uncomment to use clipboard manager
                      #clipit &

and I removed # sign before clipit &
