Probably linuxdaddy is right and you didn’t update.
      Please also
      sudo apt dist-upgrade

Afterwards you could try to install first another kernel and then the nvidia driver, anyway something went wrong, nouveau didn’t get blacklisted and now you are neither using the nouveau driver correctly nor the nvidia driver. So first thing would be to remove the nvidia driver again, before making attempts to install it in good way.
For deleting the driver from control-centre the command is

      sudo ddm-mx -p nvidia

But you seem to have started another installation process, this please also undo again. It’s not really clear to me what you did.

not sure why it’s not showing up on update.
The server has the kernel listed in pool … you could try manually downloading it and install it.

@linuxdaddy, to be shown in package-installer a new list is needed and therefore an upgrade.

does synaptic show the 5.10 kernel after hitting the reload button?

              Hi krod16,
your repo list is somewhat interesting. pls be careful not to indescriminately activate backports repos.
You can quickly break your system. Better to use the package installer or ask in the forum before making changes.

Please Backup your present sources list.d folder
In the control center Repo Manager last tab you have an option button at bottom of page.
Restore original apt sources. Please do so
Change to a local repo if you think they are ok.
do sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade and hope it runs correctly

If your upgrade ran ok you should see the newer kernels in antiX package installer

Upgrade the kernel, change is only efective after a reboot.

The random freeze seems to have disappeared after I had tried to install the Nvidia drivers (unsuccessfully). I’ve not used Wave.video app but I’ve watched a lot of YouTube without any freeze that used to happen a lot frequently earlier.

Your inxi shows there is no OpenGL 3D rendering.

                    OpenGL: renderer: N/A v: N/A direct render: N/A

                    Please type in terminal
                    glxgears

You should see three spinning gears in a small window that opens. Is this the case?

The backports repo is enabled by default on antiX.There will only get something installed from this repo if you explicitely tell so.So this is OK.

For solving the problem with your half installed nvidia driver we need more information how you tried to install the driver.
Did you install it from synaptic(package manager) or did you download it from nvidia side?

Or if this is a fairly new installation, start again from the very beginning.
Make a new installation, update your system
                        sudo apt update
                        sudo apt full-upgrade
Try another kernel, on your full installation there is already the 4.9 kernel as a fallback kernel installed, you can boot into it over the advanced options on the bootscreen.
This might already helps with the freezings. If not we can go together through the installation of the nvidia driver with the installer from control-centre..
Your card is nothing special, your hardware is really not that old, and the installation should work without problems. You could provide the /var/log/ddm.log to let us see what is going wrong if so.

In time your system is not in a healthy state, it’s not possible to play games etc., the nvidia driver needs to be purged or to be installed correctly, nothing will help otherwise.

I’ve been using the system for a few days now and it has not had the freeze issue yet. So seems that trying to install the Nvidia drivers has somehow fixed the problem. Today, I also managed to get the 5.10.104 kernel available and installed it.

I installed the kernel 5.10.104 and again tried to install the Nvidia drivers. Seems to have successfully installed now.

                            No Nvidia errors on boot.
glxgears also is working now without any errors.
