      Regular README file, which is copied from USB opens app-select. Other regular files do not open app-select. Curious and funny thing. =?

        What is the mime type for the file?
        xdg-mime query filetype README
        and the default application for that mime type?
        xdg-mime query default RETURNED_MIME_TYPE_FROM_PREVIOUS_COMMAND

          … and the second command (xdg-mime query default text/x-readme) returns nothing.
