      Hi all,

I have a minimal Sid install and I just realized it doesn’t have a ping command. When I searched, I saw there are numerous ones.

      Appreciate recommendations.

      Thanks.

        When I type
        man ping
and hit enter the man-page tells me that ‘ping’ is a part of ‘iputils’.
        apt-cache search iputils
lists, among others, ‘iputils-ping’ which is already installed in my case.
        And I can happily ‘ping’.

Since already installed and the binary file is located at ‘/bin/ping’, I can list the package that provides it via
        dpkg -S /bin/ping
        The output is
        iputils-ping: /bin/ping
and it confirms the brief info from the man-page.

I usually have iputils-ping (ping) and fping installed. Fping only really if I am going to leave it running for a while to get a nice average output at any time without killing the command.

            Hi sybok,
            Thanks for response.
My install doesn’t have /bin/ping since ping isn’t installed.

            Hi Dave,
Thanks for the recommendation. Was that the default ping program when you installed AntiX?
I ask because that is the one on my other antiX computer, which was a “full” install.

Does your minimal sid install include busybox? If so you could use that by calling it by name

busybox ping [your url, site, options etc]
